The Stables at Coombe Farm Goodleigh

We had the Christmas week at The Stables and had an absolutely wonderful time. The property was super cozy, especially with the log burner and it is beautifully decorated throughout. During our stay, we enjoyed some fabulous walks along the nearby Tarka Trail, National Trust property Arlington Court and also the South West Coastal Path at Saunton Sands. Hosts Matt and Lisa are extremely friendly and very helpful.

We had two lovely weeks in this cottage. It is a lovely location nestled in a quiet valley a couple of miles from Barnstaple. Lovely gardens, and a gorgeous swimming pool - note this is shared with others but this worked for us. The cottage is close to a bigger house which sometimes the hosts live in and sometimes let - this was fine for us but might not suit you if you want complete privacy. The hosts were charming. The house was cleverly designed, beautifully presented and extremely comfortable.

We spent a glorious week at The Stables. My two teenagers loved the hot tub, pool and trampoline. The cottage has all mod cons, is beautifully designed and decorated and is set within the most gorgeous, picture book gardens, filled with birds during the day and bats in the evening. We particularly liked the extra touches, such as the welcoming vase of fresh flowers from the garden, lovely shampoo/soap and body lotions in the two glamorous en suites and the pots of herbs on the private terrace. Lisa and Matt are a font of local knowledge and delightful hosts.

Fabulous place - really well equipped and spacious, high quality furnishings and spotlessly clean. Blissfully quiet and picturesque location. At the end of sunny beach days it's time for a barbecue on the patio gazing at the stars. On wet days, looking out from the comfy sofa onto the rolling countryside. This was our second stay at the Stables and even better than last year with the addition of a hot tub! We are planning our return for next year... Matt and Lisa are lovely hosts - leave you to your own devices but always on hand if needed.

Bring your bikes, surfboards, buckets and spades and binoculars - you're halfway between Exmoor and the coast for wonderful days out rockpooling or birdwatching and hiking or having a picnic on a wide sandy beach. Return to beautiful, generous interiors and a serious cooks kitchen.
