The
Experience

In the beautiful Chiltern Hills not all that far out of London is your peaceful 18th-century barn. Thoughtfully converted by relaxed owners Aly and John, who live in the farmhouse next door, its open roof space and glass doors make it feel bigger than it is, and its charm is retained in its original wooden frame. This rusticity is offset by light grey floorboards and the contemporary kitchen with its silver touches and everything you need to rustle up a delicious meal. Your snug bedroom overlooks the garden and is simply but comfortably furnished, and the bathroom with bath and shower has underfloor heating, ideal for the chillier months. With everything spread over one floor it’s the perfect nest for couples seeking respite from the big city and there’s plenty to do in the area; set out on one of umpteen walking or cycling trails, visit the impressive Waddesdon Manor, peruse Wendover’s small shops or see some theatre in Aylesbury. Try one of the nearby pubs or restaurants before returning to sit in a secluded corner in the big shared garden, keep an eye (and ear) out for local wildlife and gaze over to hills on the horizon.

Reviews

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing weekend at the Old Barn. John and Aly were very welcoming hosts and gave us plenty of information about the local area. The barn is extremely comfortable and well-equipped, with everything you could need. It has been beautifully restored and would not be out of place on Grand Designs! The workmanship is first class. The area is beautiful with country walks from the door. We can't wait to go back!
