The Experience

The beach is a short walk, the cliff path crosses National Trust coastline, the quiet village has a surf school, snazzy restaurant, shop and fish ‘n’ chips: all the ingredients for a terrific seaside holiday. The cottages are part of a horseshoe of converted farm buildings with communal gardens all tucked into a hillside with views over the Vale of Lanherne and out to sea.

Underfloor heating and roaring fires keep you warm in the open-plan living rooms. Soak in a roll top bath; blast away sand under a huge shower head outside No 6. Cook in sunny kitchens that catch the morning sun and, if you take both cottages, there’s plenty of room for 10 at the table.

Outside: watch the sunset over the bay with an evening drink and gaze up at the ‘living roof’ of flowers. Explore a coastline of stunning coves and beaches or tackle the coastal path which stretches to Newquay, Watergate Bay and Padstow (good bus service, too) and there’s a friendly outdoor cafe with ducks and geese down the valley on your way to the ancient village of St Mawgan – a 40-minute walk through woodland and fields.

Reviews

I loved 5 and 6 with their quirky interiors and a sense of a really welcoming home from home. The lovely sandy beach and coast path are on the doorstep and whatever the weather the setting is perfect. Carol clearly loves the cottages and has filled them with furniture and furnishings that give them a fabulous eclectic feel. Really special places to while away time and escape.

This cosy cottage is the perfect place for a family holiday. Our kids loved the short ramble down to the beach, along a scrubby country path dotted with butterflies and also remarkably tame wild rabbits. At the beach, our eight-year-old got stuck in with surfing - with the help of the fabulous local surf school - and was standing up on her board in her first lesson! We stayed in June, but the weather was changeable, so we happily made good use of the small open fire. We also had the best fish I've ever eaten from the local fishmonger who calls weekly at the cottage.

This place is a piece of paradise. We've had such an amazing time. Carol has always been very helpful making sure she would accommodate our needs as we were traveling with babies. The cottages are something out of this world. Very cosy,, everything very clean and tidy, the decoration is of such a good taste!!! The kids had such a great time outside, playing with the zip wire, running about.. The view will take your breath away, beautiful sunset from here. Overall, the only downside is that we had to leave after 5 days going back to London. We'll be back one day, I can't wait! Thank you Carol

Andrea, Surrey

We stayed at 5 & 6 for a wonderful 10 day holiday with the family. The cottages are beautiful and comfy, everything you need for a relaxing break in idyllic surroundings, bathroom in no 5 is five star !! Highly recommended!

This was the perfect long weekend treat my partner and I were looking for. We arrived late on the Friday night, but this made it all the more exciting to wake up to glorious views from bed, looking out to sea, and across the cliffs. The area has some great walks- we were lucky with the weather- but also lots of lovely things to do on rainy days. The cottage was just fab for hanging out in and relaxing- we enjoyed cooking in the lovely kitchen, relaxing in the bath, and most of all being cosy when it was so cold out. Honestly, just heaven. I want to go and live there!

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in an AONB owned by the National Trust and the whole coastline is dotted with iron age forts and settlements. There's a little shop in the village, a fish and chip shop, a restaurant and two cafes, but you'll need to go to Newquay to stock up properly. The South West Coast Path is on your doorstep for bracing walks - seven miles to Newquay and Watergate Bay. Mawgan Porth beach is a five-minute walk and you'll find a good pub in St Mawgan - a very pretty 40-minute walk.

Introducing

Carol & Peter Misch

Carol, Peter and their now grown-up children used to rent whichever of the cottages was available from the owners, who had bought and developed the farm buildings in the 1930s. They came for the beach and surf and when the cottages came up for sale just had to buy them. Using talented craftsmen to build the internal woodwork and guided by Peter’s very specific eye for detail they created two uncluttered cottages perfect for summer and winter stays.
