The Experience
On its own private headland between two beaches – a sandy one for swimming and surfing, the other for exploring rock pools – this is an enchanting spot. Explore the long stretches of coastal path in either direction, and walk the gentle 2-mile track to Padstow. Go barefoot all week and bask on the terrace overlooking Rocky Beach, where the sun shines from late morning until the invariably spectacular sunset – you’re so close to the water you can leave your towel here or lower a basket down for a beach picnic.
Kids will love running around on the large level garden overlooking Trevone Bay while grown-ups light up the barbecue and enjoy a beer. Hunkering down in the house during a westerly gale or spring tide is quite something – you can watch the waves crashing over the rocks from your bed. It’s not unusual for the front garden to fill with foam from the sea.
You’ll find a cream tea waiting for you in the well-equipped kitchen.

We had the best weekend at this amazing house in such a fabulous location . Both house and location have all the ingredients for a great family holiday . The house is very well equipped . Vicky and Emily who look after the house were more than helpful. Plenty to do for all ages in the area.

Speaking as a local, I've always loved Pentonwarra even before I was lucky enough to stay there. It is simply unique and stunning with a character and charm all of its own. The view, especially at sunset, is just mesmerising and, even in January, the house is so warm, clean and cosy you don't want to leave. The housekeeper Emily, the admin Vicky, and Kevin (maintenance) are all wonderful, kind and helpful people and Trevone is very lucky to have the Porter family as guardians of such a well-loved local landmark. It's just perfect!

Location
The neighbourhood
Trevone Bay (1 mile) and Mother Ivey’s Bay (1.5 miles) can be reached by the coast path from the front door, but the one at the tip of your toes may just feel like your own private beach. Visit Padstow (2 miles) and eat at one of Rick Stein’s seafood restaurants, join the Camel Trail and explore a piece of history at Prideaux Place. Trevose Head Lighthouse is visible from the house.
Local points of interest from The Pentonwarra Trustees
- Rocky Beach is right on Pentonwarra’s doorstep, and perfect for poking around in rock pools, sunning yourself on baking rocks, swimming in the natural swimming pool, and skimming stones. Or you can just watch everyone else from your private balcony!
- On the other side of Pentonwarra's private headland lies Trevone Bay, which offers perfect sandcastle-building sand and exciting Atlantic waves for swimming and body-boarding, and is watched over by lifeguards in the summer months.
- Ten minutes' walk away, in a clifftop field overlooking Trevone Bay on the other side, is the strange natural phenomenon of the Round Hole. When the tide is low, you can climb down it and walk through a natural arch to the rocks at the foot of the cliffs.
- From Pentonwarra's front door, a glorious stretch of north Cornwall’s coast path leads west to the perfect golden sands (and surf school) at Harlyn Bay and to the lighthouse at Trevose Head, and east to the Camel Estuary and Padstow beyond.
- The pretty fishing village of Padstow is less than an hour's walk away over lovely countryside (or a little further via the coast path). There you'll find excellent seafood (not least from Rick Stein), the Camel Trail, Prideaux Place, art, shops, and more.
- Within an hour's drive are Lanhydrock House, the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Bodmin Moor and Bodmin Jail, the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, as well as Port Isaac, Rock, and Newquay, to name just a few of the area's many attractions.

Introducing
The Pentonwarra Trustees
This seaside home has been in the Porter family ever since it was bought by a great-great-uncle over 80 years ago, and it's now managed by trustees. The family think it was once a shepherd's cottage but it has been extended over the years into a family home and now it's a wonderful holiday retreat. They've spent many happy beach holidays here and they hope that other families will love it as much as they do.
Pentonwarra is a lovely house with an intriguing history, architecture and interior layout. It could not be better sited, with a rock beach on one side, lovely sandy beach on the other and marvellous views of the sea in between. The coastal path passes it but the access road ends at the house so there is no traffic noise - just the sound of the waves. Nearby are a small shop, cafe and surfing facilities and a short walk away is Padstow Farm Shop. Inside the house has excellent facilities with everything imaginable provided to a high standard. We spent a glorious family week there.
