The Experience

Couples will love it here, hidden away down a quiet lane and with a stunning garden. Sarah and Stewart, who live in the adjoining longhouse have created a bright and pretty space with big windows to let sunshine and rolling countryside flood in.

Stroll to fabulous Cartmel for marvellous Michelin starred food from Simon Rogan, pick up all you need from a plethora of independent shops, a micro-brewery and tapas bar or simply enjoy a pint at a riverside pub. There are gentle walks and some more challenging ones straight from the door and you’re near to The Lakes for wild swimming and cruises.

This is a generous place with blankets for outdoors and a good supply of logs for the wood-burner. The grounds are delightful and are open each evening for you to wander at will – take a glass of wine and watch the garden fall asleep.

Reviews

We had the pleasure of staying in Upper Crumble, Crumble Cottages. The cottage was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. We loved the hot tub which was super toasty and private with a great view. The walk to Cartmel was only just over a mile and the village was great. Don’t forget your torches though! We sat in the hot tub and listened to owls and watched the stars. Perfect. Hosts S&S were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Would recommend for sure.

Just returned from a 6 night New year break, WOW WOW WOW, what a stunning cottage, my wife and I stayed in Upper Crumble cottage, it was spotlessly clean, had everything needed for a proper relax, had amazing views, oh and a fabulous hot tub again with great views. You are a 20 minute walk into Cartmel which is a lovely little village. Our hosts Stewart and Sarah were just the best, so friendly and helpful, a little visit on New year's eve was a wonderful touch. We will definitely return again this year without doubt. This was the most relaxing UK break we have ever had.

Cartmel and Upper Crumble captured our hearts. The cottage was lovely and perfectly restored. The gardens - stunning. Our side yard was a hidden escape. We loved hiking from our doorstep and walking down the lane to Cartmel. Stewart provided us with several great hiking suggestions and Sarah gave us a tour of the gardens. We loved our stay and meeting Stewart and Sarah a fun, fascinating, witty and genuinely caring couple.

We had such a wonderful time at Upper Crumble. It was the perfect cosy weekend getaway. Cartmel is a lively little town with some great pubs, restaurants, and a perfect little cafe. We found a fantastic walk right from our doorstep, finishing with a pub lunch and a relax in the hot tub afterwards. Thank you for making our stay so special!

Just returned from a very wet stay in upper crumble. Despite the weather, we were warm cosy and comfy. The hot tub was so nice and we managed to gaze at stars. The cottage is really well equipped and spotless. Hoping to return in better weather when we can explore the gardens more too. Just a lovely relaxing break.

A delightful cottage in a idyllic setting. Our stay at Upper Crumble was perfect from start to finish. Our hosts, Sarah and Stewart went the extra mile to make our visit extra special and were very helpful in sharing their knowledge of Cartmel and the surrounding areas. The cottage was clean and tidy and had a lovely cosy feel to it. During our stay, we enjoyed most of our evenings stargazing in the hot tub followed by a few drinks in front of the fire - a perfect way to relax after exploring the beauty of the lakes.

What a little gem this place is, beautifully clean and tidy. Very well equipped and perfectly located to visit delightful Cartmel. We had three relaxing days visiting the local area following the advice of Sarah and Stewart, eating fantastic food at the local pubs. Then, despite the inclement weather we chilled in the hot tub watching the stars and listening to the owls, rounding the night off with a few glasses of wine in front of the log burner. A real find, and we will return, thanks to our warm welcoming hosts who even invited us to their Christmas party. Don't hesitate, see for yourself.

Just returned from a most memorable 4 days at this stunning cottage. Sarah & Stewart are exceptional hosts, very knowledgeable & helpful. The cottage has everything you need & more! Lovely additions of cake, fresh coffee & wine. The hot tub is the icing on the cake. Spotlessly clean, warm, fizzy, secluded & an accompanying shower. Just lie back & gaze at the stars after some wonderful walks & several located geocaches!! We will definitely be returning & highly recommend this accommodation.

We had the most wonderful holiday at Upper Crumble. The setting is magical and we loved waking up every morning to bird song and silence! The location is perfect for exploring some of the most unspoilt parts of the Lakes and is outside the busyness of the main tourist trail. Sarah and Stewart are such welcoming, thoughtful and hospitable hosts - with the most gorgeous garden. The cottage was completely immaculate, with the added treat of the hot tub bubbling away in the private courtyard - an ideal place for star gazing! All in all this is one of the best places we've stayed.

Lizzie, Birmingham

Upper Crumble is a superb place to stay. We enjoyed peaceful sunny morning coffees sat out at the side and glorious sunny evenings in the hot tub - perfect after a long walk. Towards the end of our week when the weather turned we retreated inside to the warmth of the wood burner. Heavenly! Sarah and Stewart are perfect hosts who had time to answer any questions and left us some lovely (and delicious) surprise welcome gifts - thank you! If you're looking for a calming countryside retreat but with plenty to keep you occupied close by, then this is the place for you.

Joanne, Westhoughton

This is a really comfortable cottage, beautifully fitted out and very peaceful. A great base for exploring the south Lakes. And the hot tub is a lovely bonus.

Helen, RIpon

Cottage was beautiful and immaculate. The bed was so comfy. The hot tub was fab, very secluded and private. Lovely views from cottage.

Janette, Wigan

An absolutely stunning cottage, beautifully restored with great attention to detail. The hot tub was the 'icing on the cake' ! Sarah and Stewart were very welcoming from the start and we had a lovely relaxing long weekend. Cartmel is within walking distance with 2 Michelin starred restaurants and lovely pubs. There are lovely local walks with beautiful views. We had a wonderful stay here and will be returning. Highly recommend.

Alastair, Manchester

We had the most wonderful 7 night stay at Upper Crumble this Easter. Sarah and Stewart could not have made us feel more welcome and have thought of everything to ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. The cottage is done to the highest of standards, with a log burning stove and a beautiful private courtyard complete with hot tub - a real treat after spending the day exploring the surrounding countryside. With Windermere a 15 min drive away, several great walks direct from the cottage and Cartmel a short walk along a pretty lane, Upper Crumble is truly a perfect retreat. Highly recommended

Sarah, London

A gem of a place! So beautifully renovated with so many finishing touches. Perfect location - the tranquility being out of the village, yet walking distance to Cartmel. The hot tub was amazing & particularly therapeutic after climbing a mountain! Will definitely return!

Susan & Gordon, Princes Risborough

We stayed at Upper Crumble as part of our honeymoon and couldn't have chosen a more perfect place. The cottage itself is beautiful and so well-equipped with everything you could possibly need. The garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed eating our breakfast in the sunshine (especially the morning we looked up to see a pheasant walking past! The hot tub was a fab luxury. We look forward to coming back!

Kay, Leicester

Camila, Denbigh

A gorgeous cottage in a stunning location with amazing hosts. Thank you Sarah and Stewart for making our long weekend perfect. We cannot wait to visit again.

Kate, St Helens

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Upper Crumble cottage. The cottage has been restored to a very high standard and is a cosy, comfortable place to relax in after a day exploring. Cartmel is only a short walk away and has a good selection of places to eat while the lakes are only a drive away. I would highly recommend staying at Crumble cottages as I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
