The Experience

Off-piste drivers will delight in the approach – down a stone track, over an open field, across a ford and through grassy woodland. You land in a dreamy, bucolic setting with an arboretum and views over two deep water lakes (yes you may swim, and yes you may use a little boat) with island, waterfalls, a small summerhouse that revolves, and a stream teeming with wildlife.

A veranda and patio with table and chairs face south so you won’t miss a thing; writers, artists and those clutching a large drink may take root here on less chilly days. Your wooden cabin is comfortable and very cosy: find one fresh and airy living/dining room with a fully formed kitchen area and plenty of good seating; glass doors open out to the terrace.

The main bedroom has a giant bed with a pretty batik bedspread; the bunk room is fine for adults or children. You’re left homemade jams and usually a cake. The sky will be starry on clear nights.

Reviews

Clare, Manchester

A perfect place to take our puppy on her first trip away from home. Stunning countryside and scenery with four lakes to stroll around and a rowing boat to use. One of the lakes has an antique summerhouse with deckchairs and camping seats. We saw deer, a woodpecker and one of the family's dogs came to pay us a visit. Our pup enjoyed the free dog biscuits and spending all of her time 'off lead' in safety. We loved the beautifully furnished interior of the lodge with all mod cons and the very comfy sun loungers outside. We were so sad to leave but are taking lots of happy memories with us!

Tammy, Nottingham

Fabulous break in what was our own private hideaway. So peaceful and relaxing in such a beautiful setting. lovely welcome touches, yummy muffins, dog treats/blankets. Perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area. Will definitely be back

Gorgeous retreat for couples, children and dogs!

Charlotte, Dorset

A truly wonderful stay, highly recommended. The host and hostess were charming and nothing was too much trouble. We look forward to another visit soon!

I just wanted to say my husband and I have just spent the most fantastic week in the log cabin in Milson - what a wonderful place - it all felt a bit Hansel and Gretel (without the witch) truly tranquil and as an escape from London you couldn't ask for more. So thank you for choosing it for your website and thank you to Victoria Orchard for all her work on the cabin and her wonderful foody recommendations for local eateries all of which were spot on.

Location

The neighbourhood

Drive 10 mins to Cleehill for the highest peak in Shropshire with 360-degree views. Ludlow is a medieval market town and architectural gem with a food and drink festival in September. Find a superb farm shop and café at Oakly Park Estate, 20 mins, selling their own meat and dairy products and with pizza and barbecue nights in summer. Antique hunters will head to Leominster or Ludlow for antique shops.

Introducing

Victoria Orchard

The family have lived around here for many years and have a small estate around Lakeside Retreat suitable for walking and exploring when livestock aren't out. They dredged and relined the lakes with clay, replanted several species of trees and created their woodland and wildlife project which is home to kingfishers, ducks, owls and many others.
