The Experience
Off-piste drivers will delight in the approach – down a stone track, over an open field, across a ford and through grassy woodland. You land in a dreamy, bucolic setting with an arboretum and views over two deep water lakes (yes you may swim, and yes you may use a little boat) with island, waterfalls, a small summerhouse that revolves, and a stream teeming with wildlife.
A veranda and patio with table and chairs face south so you won’t miss a thing; writers, artists and those clutching a large drink may take root here on less chilly days. Your wooden cabin is comfortable and very cosy: find one fresh and airy living/dining room with a fully formed kitchen area and plenty of good seating; glass doors open out to the terrace.
The main bedroom has a giant bed with a pretty batik bedspread; the bunk room is fine for adults or children. You’re left homemade jams and usually a cake. The sky will be starry on clear nights.

Our second visit to this magical place and it was just as beautiful as the first time ! As soon as we arrive, we feel relaxed and stress-free. The week goes too quickly, but it does give us time to plan our next visit ! So much wildlife to see in the most beautiful surroundings, you could never tire of this stunning hideaway, and absolutely fantastic for dogs too ! Thank you so much Victoria and Guy for sharing this wonderful haven of peace and tranquillity. See you next year.

Lakeside Retreat is totally outstanding. The beautifully tranquil setting is just paradise. The cabin is decorated and fully equipped to an exceptional high finish. We use the lake daily, whether it be swimming, paddle boarding or gently rowing in the provided boat and taking in all the sights and sounds from the wildlife that live within this truly amazing place. Each time we have visited, we never leave until it’s time to come home. But from what I hear there are lovely places close by to visit. We have been visiting yearly since 2018, and hope for this to continue for many years to come.

An absolutely wonderful place. Calm and tranquil and the dog swam his socks off. We've never seen him so tired in the evening. The cabin had everything we needed and more. We will be back again, something we have never done before.

With winding lanes, charming villages, brilliant views of fields and hedgerows, this corner of Shropshire is an absolute find. And Lakeside Retreat even more so. The cottage is by two small lakes (large ponds?) connected by a stream, with all the seclusion and privacy you could want. We saw lots of wonderful birdlife, including a heron. Strolling around the lakes at dawn and dusk made for the perfect start and finish to each day. The cottage itself is lovely, everything clean and convenient. The area is beautiful and handy to shops and towns of interest. Would definitely & highly recommend

Location
The neighbourhood
Drive 10 mins to Cleehill for the highest peak in Shropshire with 360-degree views. Ludlow is a medieval market town and architectural gem with a food and drink festival in September. Find a superb farm shop and café at Oakly Park Estate, 20 mins, selling their own meat and dairy products and with pizza and barbecue nights in summer. Antique hunters will head to Leominster or Ludlow for antique shops.

Introducing
Victoria Orchard
The family have lived around here for many years and have a small estate around Lakeside Retreat suitable for walking and exploring when livestock aren't out. They dredged and relined the lakes with clay, replanted several species of trees and created their woodland and wildlife project which is home to kingfishers, ducks, owls and many others.
We had a wonderful stay at Lakeside Retreat at the end of the summer. It is so secluded and peaceful, but the cabin had everything we needed. We also enjoyed kayaking on the lake.
