The Experience

Off-piste drivers will delight in the approach – down a stone track, over an open field, across a ford and through grassy woodland. You land in a dreamy, bucolic setting with an arboretum and views over two deep water lakes (yes you may swim, and yes you may use a little boat) with island, waterfalls, a small summerhouse that revolves, and a stream teeming with wildlife.

A veranda and patio with table and chairs face south so you won’t miss a thing; writers, artists and those clutching a large drink may take root here on less chilly days. Your wooden cabin is comfortable and very cosy: find one fresh and airy living/dining room with a fully formed kitchen area and plenty of good seating; glass doors open out to the terrace.

The main bedroom has a giant bed with a pretty batik bedspread; the bunk room is fine for adults or children. You’re left homemade jams and usually a cake. The sky will be starry on clear nights.

Reviews

Alison, Bath

Our week staying at Lakeside Retreat was a total delight. The cabin is comfortable and well equipped, but the highlight for us were the fabulous grounds and lakes that are all so beautifully and passionately maintained. Such a peaceful and idyllic slice of heaven that is abundant with wonderful wildlife. We can’t wait to return.

Jen, Maidenhead

After our second visit to the stunning Lakeside Retreat, we still can’t wait to come back again! There is a special magic about it, all the gorgeous little details in the cabin and all the surrounding landscape. It’s a little slice of heaven, and so rare to find a place tucked away in a setting like this with two lakes and a waterfall all to yourself. Our dogs absolutely love jumping in for a swim (and so do we!).

Sarah, Hertfordshire

The Lakeside Retreat was very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The fresh eggs left for us on our arrival were much appreciated. We had a very peaceful, relaxing week plus wonderful sunny weather. We felt spoilt having such a lovely extensive area all to ourselves. Each morning we chose a different place to sit and have coffee. There was always something interesting to look at such as the Mallard ducks and ducklings, the shoal of fish in the lake, the pollinators on the flowers and around the insect houses. It was a real treat having a rowing boat in such a picturesque setting

Peter, London

Back to our tiny peace of heaven... It was great to be back again and to see the continued work to make this special place our very own nature reserve. The peace and quite makes you relax as soon as you get out of the car and the automatic lawn mower is a great touch to help ensure you don’t get to see anyone else whilst you are there. We can’t wait to return with our little fur babies who love it there!

Jeanie & Martin, West Sussex

We stayed at Lakeside Retreat for a short winter break. The cabin was absolutely brilliant with everything you could possibly need including tea coffee and cake. The heating was on when we arrived so it was nice and toasty. Lovely comfortable bed. Lots of wildlife around and great for bird watching. Really enjoyed watching the kingfisher catch his dinner and the small robin that sat outside. Lots of lovely walks to be enjoyed . We were lucky enough to meet Jamie who manages the grounds & advised us where to spot the wildlife. Can't wait to return.

Introducing

Victoria Orchard

The family have lived around here for many years and have a small estate around Lakeside Retreat suitable for walking and exploring when livestock aren't out. They dredged and relined the lakes with clay, replanted several species of trees and created their woodland and wildlife project which is home to kingfishers, ducks, owls and many others.
