The
Experience

Surrounded by acres of woodland and pasture, a blissfully remote Burgundy farmhouse with charming rooms. Retired journalist Lee has transformed her historic home into a mellow countryside retreat. Parquet floors and oak beams endure in light, spacious bedrooms filled with antiques; each has a sparkling modern bathroom. Lee’s bountiful vegetable garden provides much of the produce for superb regional meals eaten communally. Only birdsong disturbs the deep peace, so go slow and laze by the inviting pool, explore the wild gardens, take a siesta… or head out to Vézelay hilltop village or medieval Clamecy. Wonderful.

Reviews

We were doing a 2+ week tour of central/northern France with emphasis on the wine regions and food...and during our trip we stayed in 5 really great Sawday reccomendations. Auberge de la Tuilerie was the best! Spectacular peaceful location, house, rooms, and the super charming Lee and her assistant Soula. We eat there both nights and were treated to some really well thought-out and delicious food/wine in a great setting. We will return, even if it means going out of our way. Many thanks Lee and best wishes.

A fantastic find which I would wholeheartedly recommend. Very comfortable rooms in a tranquil setting. Delicious food cooked by Lee.

A lovely place, very quiet and peaceful. Lee is a lovely host and a perfect cook. We greatly enjoyed the dinners and breakfasts under the plane tree. The rooms are very nice with a good bed (clean!).

Lee and Philippe are very welcoming. Lovely room and very comfortable bed. Lee's cooking is wonderful and we had some delicious meals all using vegetables from the garden. A treat to have breakfast and supper sitting out in the garden. An added bonus is the swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Auberge de la Tuilerie for three nights at the end of August 2016. In common with other guests we very much enjoyed the good food, wine and comfortable accommodation. Lee and Philippe are excellent and intelligent hosts, as is the third member of the team, Emile the dog, who also takes his hospitality duties very seriously. The place of Lee and Philipp is very peaceful, quiet and surrounded of the tipical burgudy countyside. The rooms are decorated with nice furniture and a lot of lovely details. Lee is a wonderful cook and the wine Philipp serves is plenty and very tasteful. 35 Euros for such a dinner with wine and coffee is not much. We will go again!!

We have travelled extensively through France over the years and were using Sawdays to find great places even before there was the internet! Auberge de la Tuilerie optimises the wonderful holiday experience that an exceptional BnB can be. Lee is an accomplished cook who left New York and made her home and professional media career in France for many decades. She effortlessly combines the best French ingredients and adds a touch of international flare. The Auberge is in a beautiful rural setting with great pool, kitchen garden, country views and walks and most of all wonderful hospitality.

Jason, Sydney

The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and well presented, the surroundings were beautiful and it was peaceful and quiet. All the things we love! We really enjoyed the meal in the evening, good food and perfectly cooked.

Nina, Cardiff
