The Experience

Truly a gardener’s delight, the seven acres which surround this small priory sway with thousands of flowers (the peonies are amazing), and there’s a beautiful arboretum too. The house itself has medieval origins but was remodelled in the 1800s and still retains a lot of its original charm. Bedrooms are traditional and comfortable – pretty wallpaper, handsome beds and charming artwork on the walls – all have en suite bathrooms. The drawing room is wood-panelled with books and art lining the walls, a lovely retreat on an inclement day.

Served in the dining room, breakfasts are huge with an amazing selection of jams made from fruit from the garden and eggs from their hens, plus pastries, breads, smoked salmon, cheese and cold cuts, cakes and panna cotta too.

Spend your days exploring the gardens and the ancient church nearby, take a hot air balloon ride over the Loire river or cycle into nearby Blois.

Introducing

Antoine

Antoine and his wife are wonderful hosts; with enough guests, they lay on a very reasonable four-course meal with excellent local wines. They live on site and are happy to tell you all about the house and gardens, which have been in the family since the 1960s. Antoine’s father, a botanical enthusiast, began the work and collected more than 2,000 plant species from all over the world.
