The Experience

The approach is down a long gravelled drive with swathes of lawn on either side; mature trees and an orchard lead to a deep lake in which you can fish. You have a choice of two lovely places to stay: a charming rescued pigeonnier, bright and airy with a beamed ceiling and a lovely terrace for late sunshine and dreamy views. Or a separate house on the other side of the main one with a private terrace, barbecue and table seating with views over parkland and small lake. Both feel private and unoverlooked, have large well-equipped kitchens, plenty of comfy seating and shady spots for deckchair snoozing. There’s a super shared pool with lake views and a games room for all. Easy to stay put but there’s much to see and do in this unspoilt part of the country, one hour south of the Dordogne. Five minutes away, Auvillar, one of ‘les plus beaux villages de France,’ still has its circular, covered market.

Reviews

Elspeth, Comrie

Perfectly located just under an hour's drive from Toulouse, we stayed in the Maison de Campagne for 10 days, so glad we did, a week would not have been long enough. Booking process seamless, accommodation spotless and superbly equipped - Allison and Nick have thought about everything. Charming and accommodating hosts with an encyclopedic knowledge of the area, never obtrusive but always on hand should you need them. Perfect, we will be back.

Jane, Brighton

We have recently returned from an Idyllic week staying in the Maison de Campagne at Le Farat which is in the most stunning location set in meticulously maintained grounds. Maison de Campagne is beautiful, peaceful and private and was thoughtfully furnished, immaculate and very well equipped and we could not fault it! Allison and Nick are gracious hosts and were always on hand to give advice on the local area . They are unobtrusive but available and the wonderful vegetables, lemon cake and wine on arrival were enjoyed greatly. We did not want to leave and will definitely be back..

David, Lincoln

An amazing location - tranquility at its finest, the accommodation and swimming pool are superb with great views over the surrounding countryside. Allison and Nick are superb hosts, with a wealth of local knowledge and suggestions for your stay. A ‘must stay’ location, if you want a break from the noise of everyday life, with a chance to unwind and sample a slower pace of life whilst exploring the south of France.

James, Southwick, Brighton

Our stay at Le Farat was beautiful, Allison and Nick were great hosts and were always on hand if needed. The gites and grounds were lovely and so peaceful. Shame we only stayed for a week

Ailsa, Winchester

We spent a blissful few days in this wonderful, tranquil bed and breakfast, superbly equipped and in a beautiful location. Allison and Nick are terrific hosts; warm, friendly and welcoming. Comfortable bed, large, well-equipped living/dining room (with fridge and microwave). Well located, with a great restaurant just up the hill in the village, and 5 mins from Auvillar. Superb!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Allison & Nick Feeley

  • Auvillar is a certified "Plus Beaux villages de France" . Built from Quercy Stone & Toulouse brick (unique to the area) The medieval bastide centre is focused around a rare circular grain market still used regularly for daily village life and festivals
  • Auvillar is listed as an important place to visit on the famous pilgrims walking route "St Jaques de Compostelle" GR65 which passes by the door. We are quickly becoming a favourite stop for the more discerning walker in our luxury B&B suite.
  • Just a few minutes stroll through the beautiful countryside you will find a fantastic reasonably priced restaurant. Michelin recognised and focusing on local fresh produce, the restaurant is one not to miss on a stay with us. Advanced booking essential.
  • A gastronomes delight! This region is famous for Agen prunes, wine, Armagnac, peaches, nectarines, apricots, cherries, melons, fois gras and much more. Fresh seasonal fruit and veg are available daily at our neighbours' farm, picked to order if required.
  • Each Pentecost weekend Auvillar springs into life with its 2 day wine festival the "St Noe" It attracts visitors from all over the region and hosts traditional dancing, communal meals, music lead processions and plenty of wine! One for your Spring Diary.
  • Local markets are a way of life here and there's sure to be one each day of the week within a few minutes drive. Vide Greniers are popular too, with many antiques to be found amongst the junk Its a great opportunity to haggle - all part of the fun!
