The Experience

Far from crowds, this arty bolthole is tucked down a leafy cobblestone lane between Batignolles and Montmartre in one of those effortlessly cool pockets of Paris that locals love and tourists rarely find.

Step through a tumble of plants at the door to a light-filled mews-style home brimming with personality. Inside, discover bold artwork, vintage finds and creative touches – the sunken sitting room has a strong bohemian vibe. There’s space to gather – cook in the kitchen, sit outside and chat with the neighbours, or settle in for a movie night with the large projector screen.

Upstairs, four bedrooms each have their own bathroom, plus there’s a study that doubles as an extra sleeping spot. One room is tucked under the eaves, ideal for teens. It’s homely, quirky and surprisingly peaceful. Best of all, there’s a real village feel to the neighbourhood, with food markets, wine bars and independent boutiques just steps away.

Reviews

A hip, arty bolthole for exploring Paris as a group. This quarter is fun, so different from the touristy areas along the Seine. What a great base with family or friends for outings followed by relaxing and cooking together in the huge living area, instead of having to separate into different hotel rooms. I loved the Andalusian-style sunken sitting area, the gorgeous dining area and the artwork.

Location

The neighbourhood

This lively pocket of the 17th arrondissement is packed with cafés, boutiques and food markets, with the classic Le Wepler brasserie and leafy Jardin des Batignolles just 10 minutes' walk. Browse Le Bal’s photography gallery or the Brocante de la Rue de Lévis flea market, then wander to Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur (20 mins). Don’t miss the famous Saint-Ouen Flea Market (30 mins).

Local points of interest from Oriane de Vallée

  • Hidden Paris: In the heart of Batignolles, Maison Nomade Paris sits at the end of a private cobbled alley, a secret haven in the 17th arrondissement where Paris feels like a village. Step outside and wander through the Batignolles market.
  • The Square des Batignolles, with its pond and chestnut trees, and the Parc Martin Luther King, with its wooden walkways and modern design, are both nearby – perfect for a morning jog, a picnic, or just people-watching with a croissant.
  • In fifteen minutes on foot you reach Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur, where cobbled streets lead to artist studios, hidden vineyards, and one of the most beautiful views over Paris.
  • A taste of the real Paris: Follow your nose down Rue de Lévis, one of the city's oldest food streets, lined with fromageries, boulangeries, and colourful market stalls. It's a daily celebration of French gastronomy.
  • Wander the nearby Cité des Fleurs, a tranquil, flower-lined street that feels like stepping back in time. In the evening, settle into one of Oriane's favourite neighbourhood spots – Le Tout Petit Bois or Le Bistrot des Dames.
  • Culture: Cinéma des Cinéastes, Art et Essaie movies, La Bal photography exhibition, and a large book store which specialises in photography.
