The Experience

A privilege to enter this sun-coloured building with a balcony at each window: every room tells another story documenting the past 450 years of history with family archives and a library of 2000 books – culture-seekers will be filled with joy. You can relax in any of the colourfully painted sitting rooms and absorb the art or read a book, and there is a gallery space downstairs.

The biggest surprise of all is the historic botanical garden, originally designed in 1900 and overflowing with an astonishing variety of flowers, fruit and trees and with lots of hidden places to have breakfast, nap, read or meditate. You breakfast heartily on fresh ricotta, home-baked breads, cakes and tarts, freshly-squeezed oranges from the garden. Spacious bedrooms have gorgeous fabrics and smart, modern bathrooms.

The cottages in the garden have their own kitchens and you are a short stumble from restaurants and shops at this very special oasis.

Reviews

Palazzo Previtera is a wonderful hotel with a long history rooted into a cosmopolitan and very hard working family who appreciates culture and contemporary art. We booked into the suite and it was fantastic, the art deco bedframe is a piece of art and the ample bathroom overlooking the quiet garden is so beautiful. It was also so special to be sitting in front of the fireplace and enjoy breakfast there. We can't wait to come back with my sister during the summer months. The garden is beautiful and the architect Mariella did a fantastic job in combining old and modern plant. Bravi!

Family-run hotel with the most beautiful rooms, marble bathrooms and spectacular views of Etna. We really enjoyed the ambience of the Palazzo and the warmth and dedication of the staff who went beyond our expectations to make sure we had a wonderful holiday. Their concierge service is outstanding, they booked restaurants, trips, wineries. We also enjoyed the contemporary at the nearby gallery SARP in Linguaglossa, we enjoyed a beautiful digital exhibitions by New-Zealand artist Andre' Hemer. Thank you Previtera 's team for our memorable experience and we can't wait to come back.

Palazzo Previtera is set into a beautiful historic location, bedrooms are spacious, modern and the marble bathrooms are very comfortable. Living areas are magnificently decorated with the most intriguing set of textiles and design sofa. Breakfast is divine and their home made marmalades are worth a trip. We will be back and we can't wait to share with our friends this wonderful memory.

Palazzo Previtera is one of the most special places we ever stayed and surely the highlight of our Sicilian holiday. The staff was courteous and attentive to every single detail, rooms offers one of the nicest views of the garden and Etna. The garden tells an unique botanical journey into the charm of a Sicilian garden on the slopes of Etna. We can't wait to tell to all of our friends about Palazzo Previtera. You arrive as a guest and you leave as a friend of the Palazzo.

Wonderful experience at Palazzo Previtera. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms overlooking the old garden and the view of Etna was breathtaking. The breakfast was delicious with homemade apricot tart and excellent coffee. True and real Sicilian hospitality at the finest level, thank you to each of the staff for a memorable experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we can't wait to come back next year.

The northern side of Etna volcano is a true discovery - a land of spectacular landscapes and natural wonders, ancient history, earthly wines and delectable meals based on fresh local products. A memorable stay is guaranteed at the historic Palazzo with its stunning secret garden offers guests in-depth insight on the rich and layered Sicilian culture as shared by its multi-generational owners.

Location

The neighbourhood

You are in the historic centre of Linguaglossa with its maze of narrow streets, yet it is so quiet! Ristorante Boccaperta is a 5-minute walk and serves local specialities with matching wines. Take a day trip around Etna by train, stopping at villages and wineries, or hike, bike and jeep - best with a guide. The unspoilt landscape, wild flowers, rock formations and views are magical.

Local points of interest from Alfio Puglisi

  • Explore the wildest part of Etna with a 2-hours hike among the Sartorius Craters, a button-line of seven extinct craters, and the lava flow that originated during the eruption of 1865.
  • Enjoy wine tasting at a local winery and learn more about the heroic viticulture of white, red and prosecco of the Etna wines under a sky full of stars.
  • Walk around the picturesque streets of Taormina. Visit the Greek Theatre and enjoy breathtaking views of the Eastern coast of Sicily. Stop for coffee and cannoli at Pasticceria Etna.
  • Walk around the river Alcantara in Castiglione di Sicilia near Saint Nicholas Bridge. Visit the Byzantine Cuba, chapel in Sicily, built around the 7th century A.D.
  • Enjoy a quiet and peaceful day at the local beach of Marina di Cottone, blue, fresh clear waters surrounded by an Eucalyptus forest and wonderful Mt. Etna.
  • Start your day in Catania at the bustling morning market with fishmongers under colourful umbrellas. Visit the Duomo of Catania and then walk to the Monastery of St. Nicholas of Arena.

Introducing

Alfio Puglisi

The house has been in the family since 1649. Alfio, his mother Maria (an architect) and father Alberto (an engineer) together masterminded the incredible restoration and now Alfio has taken over its day-to-day running. His passion for the arts is evident in his development of this centre for contemporary art, culture and dialogue. Artists create their pieces and show them in the gallery space.
