The Experience
Italian design at its very best: the original 1930s tiles, the Murano chandeliers, the paintings, the beautiful staircase, fabulous pops of colour and clever lighting; you’ll feel inspired. There’s much warmth and comfort too with a gorgeous sitting room for reading or planning trips – coffee, teas and homemade biscuits at hand. Browse thousands of art books in the library, book a massage, or use the small spa.
Four bedrooms and one suite (in the loft) have lots of natural light, smooth linens, fluffy pillows and plenty of books; bathrooms dazzle with big showers, delicious-smelling soaps and lotions, bathrobes and slippers. Wake to homemade cakes and brioches, frittatas, cured meats and local cheeses – the menu changes seasonally and you need to choose from the menu the evening before.
The large terrace at the back overlooks the street and has a small pool. Listen to the birds, enjoy the mountain views, or take a short walk into town for a stroll along its narrow streets.

What a lovely place! We had such a great holiday. The house is in such a wonderful setting, set high amongst olive trees and overlooking Pisa. Happiness is sitting on the balcony in the evening drinking a cup of tea. The children were delighted with having a pool in their back garden. Colin and Luisa are welcoming and friendly hosts. I would definitely recommend this special place.

This place is a little slice of heaven! From the moment my family arrived we were taken in by the beautiful surroundings. Luisa and Colin were the perfect hosts. As soon as we stepped out of the car they were there to greet us and made us all feel so welcome. You just got the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. The views are absolutely amazing and the pool area was great. We loved cooking on the wood stove and eating on the terrace, while staring at the views of Pisa and the coast behind it. The accommodation was lovely and the kitchen well stocked. Hope to return one day......

La Lucertola is a truly special place to stay - the house is situated among ancient terraced olive groves with plenty of areas to sit and relax in the shade of olive trees or in the sunshine on the terrace by the pool. Inside, the beautifully decorated house was extremely comfortable and we woke each morning to the fragrance of jasmine blossom. We enjoyed many evenings watching the fireflies from the patio, and experimenting with the woodfired pizza oven. There are lovely walks through the olive groves directly from the house. Our 5 yr old particularly enjoyed the Parco di Pinocchio (30 mins)

Location
The neighbourhood
A guided tour is the best way of discovering why the Camonica Valley is such an important heritage site – one of the longest in the Lombard Alps and with the most stunning collection of ancient rock art. Bienno village, a 10-minute drive, is one of Italy's prettiest. You can ski in winter, there are festivals, harvests to join, and some wonderful restaurants serving Italian classics and ice creams.

Introducing
Colin Pilkington
The house has been in Evelina's family since 1920, when her grandfather bought it. He was passionate about art, and travelled the valley documenting churches and frescoes, paintings and architecture. Evelina and Enzo have restored sympathetically and sustainably, while keeping the lovely, homely feel.
We very enjoyed our 2 weeks stay at La Lucertola guest house. The view and surroundings are just perfect if you want to switch off for a while. The pool is great and the house is simple but tastefully decorated. Luisa and Colin were great hosts. They were on the site but gave their guests a lot of space to be by themselves. Lots of great food delis locally. The only flaw is the drive up - but it is totally worth the effort for the amazing view. We had restaurant at home organised by the hosts which was delicious. Do try their olive oil!
