The latest of Patrick and Dany's sparkling ventures is a restored wash house – a delicious bolthole for two. Its veranda laps at the edge of a lively pond where nature frolics and recycled water babbles: a delight to ear and eye. Trot down the new brick path and through the fenced garden to find an unexpectedly lofty, light-drenched room with a clean sweep of stone floor. A weaving hangs above a pale stone fireplace, a chaise-hamac is suspended from a beam, there are cream curtains at sliding glass doors, bright red towels in a chic shower, a kitchen that is a joy to use and a metal spiral stair winding up to a bed that tucks itself – and you – under the eaves. You get your own decked veranda with a Japanese feel, and seven hectares of fields, gardens, ponds, potager, horses and hens to share with the others. There is also table d'hôtes – delicious, twice-weekly, huge fun. Under construction are a large eco pond so you can swim with the frogs (purification ingeniously taken care of, thanks to special plants) and a hammam, indoor pool and fitness centre. Amazing!
