Yorkshire, the UK’s largest county, spans an incredible 2.9 million acres. With two stunning national parks – the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors – plus a rich heritage of medieval abbeys, Norman castles, and historic market towns, it’s a dream destination for walkers, cyclists and food lovers alike. But beyond the big landscapes, Yorkshire is peppered with buzzy market towns and chocolate-box villages, full of artisan shops, tiny cinemas, homemade cakes, outdoor pools and proper community spirit. Here are five of our favourite pretty places to soak up the best of rural Yorkshire.

Once a bustling port, today this sweet higgledy-piggledy fishing village is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, walkers and seafood fans. Wander down to the beach for crab sandwiches or hop aboard a wildlife-spotting boat trip. With the dramatic North York Moors rising behind the village, it’s ideal for windswept walks followed by tea and chips in a cosy café.
