Dive deep into the countryside to a cluster of farm buildings and this medieval cruck barn. Great wishbone-like beams open up above you, white lime-plastered walls and a heated flagstone floor set the tone, and art historian Anthea, full of warmth and friendliness, settles you in. Find a hotch-potch of sea-green sofas, wooden dining table, a pine dresser filled with good crockery, thick curtains and a smattering of art; the dated but decently equipped kitchen is to the side. Downstairs too is the double bedroom, cosy with king-sized brass bed and white Indian cover, beige linen curtains at new wooden windows, and thick towels in a new bathroom with walk-in shower. Upstairs is a simpler bedroom with a low cross beam between two beds (perfect for the agile!) and views to the farmhouse. Patio doors lead from the living room onto a little paved furnished area by the peaceful road, facing south-west so you can catch the afternoon sun. This is a child-friendly holiday home, with highchair, plastic cutlery, cot, heaps of books and games... and the thrill of tractors and cows on the spot.
