The Experience

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, lapped by the waters of Loch Ryan, this 1,400 acre estate is yours to share. Innumerable native and exotic trees flourish, deer cross the lawns, red squirrels, hedgehogs and hares drop by, and the self-catering cottages, down a private drive, ooze style and polish. The first lies in a two-storey wing of the rambling Georgian house, with gorgeous garden views; the second is above the old stables. Super-inviting under sloping ceilings, it has a cosy wood-burner and its own garden. Both are immaculate, with painted wrought-iron beds, new carpets, gleaming floors and a scattering of prints by Scottish artists. Kitchens have all you need, there’s a farm shop nearby and the nearest restaurant is seven miles. Owners Kate and Angus, the nicest pair, leave you welcome goodies, flowers, board games and DVDs; best of all, they are happy for young guests to share their children’s play house and trampoline. If you bring a big crowd there’s High Clachan, a handsome farmhouse for 8, just down the road. Come for gardens by the hatful, vast sands at Luce, the old harbour of Portpatrick (and its great pubs!). Or catch the ferry to Belfast.

Reviews

High Clachan Farmhouse was an absolute treat for our 10 day family stay. Extra tableware and mattresses were provided at our request and our hosts went above and beyond to accommodate us. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone and hope to stay again!

We had a wonderful stay at Garden Cottage on Corsewall Estate. The generously proportioned property is beautifully situated and was equipped with everything one might need for a stay. Kate, the owner, was on hand to answer any questions we had. We used the Cottage as a base to explore Scotland and it was a welcome retreat at the end of our busy days. I would happily recommend a stay here.

So glad we stayed at Stables Cottage at Corsewall. Kate & Angus are so welcoming & have thought of everything-the coffee machine was fantastic & the cottage was comfortable & tastefully decorated. I absolutely loved waking up to birdsong coming from the woodland which we happily explored every day. Corsewall has it all: You can walk to a beautiful, secluded beach, through the extensive gardens, woodlands & into the village. The trampoline, swing & slide were great. Perfect base to explore but could have happily spent all our time on the estate. Thank you Kate & Angus for a wonderful holiday.

Bethan, Rossendale

We stayed in Stables Cottage on the Corsewall Estate for a week. It was a very comfortable cottage with beautiful walks from the door. The Estate has many paths which you can explore, very lovely especially with all the bluebells in flower. We were made to feel very welcome and we enjoyed a very relaxing week and visited several gardens in the area. A special place to stay!

Irene, Kendal

As soon as we saw the pictures of Corsewall cottages we knew this was of a standard we were looking for. Never having stayed in this area we were a little unsure of what the area offered, we were not disappointed. We stayed in Garden Cottage, an annex of the main house and it was brilliant. We could wander freely in the well maintained grounds searching out those ellusive red Squirrels, not spotted till the last day. So much to see in the area, from relaxing at the small beaches, wandering the grounds to sightseeing further afield. Super luxurious stay, lovely hosts. Definitely recommend.

Just back from a fabulous stay at Garden Cottage on Corsewall Estate. The house has everything you could need and more and is spotless. The views from the cottage are stunning. Kate and Angus are the most welcoming hosts, we were made feel relaxed and at home. The grounds on the estate have mature trees and shrubs, constantly evolving with the seasons, there is always something to see. Wildlife is in abundance, deer, red squirrel and woodpeckers to name but a few. We had the best time relaxing and walking, enjoying the scenery and the tranquil setting that is Corsewall. Can't wait to go back.

Carol, Hamilton

Stayed for a 3-night break. Cottage very homely with all necessary facilities, estate beautiful to walk through, with marked routes aplenty. All-in-all a very beautiful and peaceful place to relax. Would recommend, and that is praise from a well-travelled, hard-to-please individual !

Nicole, Stirling

We recently spent a few days at High Clachan Farmhouse. The house was very well equipped and lovely and warm! Everyone had a relaxing time and thoroughly enjoyed all the walks on the estate and the wider area.

June, Glasgow

Had a wonderful 5 days at Garden Cottage on the Corsewall Estate. The cottage (attached to the main house) is beautiful with 3 comfortable bedrooms each with its own ensuite. We did some wonderful walks straight from the door. Some walks take in woodland and other are along the water's edge. We celebrated a birthday while we were there and all three generations agreed it was one of the most relaxing breaks we have been on. Highly recommended.

Home Farm is a beautiful, comfortable, well equipped cottage on a peaceful, stunning, well cared for Estate. The trees are wonderful and we enjoyed the walks from the door through the lovely woods down to the bay. The owners are amazing; so friendly and helpful. A new area of the country for us and we will be back.

Esther, Cambridge

A very spacious and well provided for farmhouse in an idyllic location. Welcoming and responsive hosts, who have thoughfully curated information on walks, activities and places to eat. The whole family had a great time at High Clachan. The Corsewall estate is a great location to unwind, relax and explore.

We had a wonderful week at High Clachan Farmhouse. The house is very spacious, warm and comfortable, everything has been thought of and it is extremely well equipped. The bathrooms are huge! Angus and Kate are consummate hosts, no expense has been spared on the quality of bedding, towels etc. The Estate has very good walks from the door and it's an easy 10 minute drive to Stranraer for any shopping. There are also many gardens, beaches and sights to visit within easy driving distance. We'll definitely be making a return visit sometime in the future.

Moira, Edinburgh

We booked Highclachan Farmhouse for a short stay at the end of September for my daughter's 30th birthday. The property is well located near Loch Ryan & the village of Kirkcolm near Stranraer. The property itself is beautifully furnished with each bedroom having a lovely big bathroom with giant tubs for bathing. Great for a good hot soak after a long walk. The house was very comfortable & warm. The large kitchen has a big dining table ideal for long leisurely dinners and lunches. Would thoroughly recommend. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Carol, Monmouth

Beautiful cottage and wonderful hosts. No need to leave the estate everything on your doorstep. Fabulous walks through the gardens and woodlands. Waterside rambles and so much wildlife. Would highly recommend!

Cris, Bedfordshire

We knew we’d made the right choice as soon as we arrived. The Stables Cottage was lovely- clean and comfortable. Tasty brownies, jam and dog biscuits left for us. Grounds of estate are gorgeous, with a variety of impressive trees and plants. The grounds are free to roam, the trampoline and zip wire were a major hit with our kids, and we often came across deer. There are several walks and it’s not far to the edge of the loch, great for skimming stones and watching the big ferries. Kate and Angus were so welcoming and even posted some books we left behind. Best of all, it’s SO quiet! 5 star

Lucy, Lincoln

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at High Clachan farmhouse. The house was very comfortable, well equipped and clean. We enjoyed the lovely walks around the estate and watching the deer and rabbits from the house. There was lots to see in the area and we enjoyed eating out at the local restaurants. Kate and Angus were great hosts, providing lots of information on the area and where to eat. This is definitely a house to return to.

Christine, Comber

A lovely cottage in an excellent location. Very relaxed and hospitable hosts who have created a welcoming environment in an historic setting. Paths through the estate have been created for all comers and they must be appreciated by visitors and locals alike.

Richard, Stow-on-the-Wold

We had a wonderful week at High Clachan Farmhouse on Corsewall Estate. The house had everything we needed, was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The setting, beside a bluebell wood leading down to a sweet little bay, was lovely. Galloway is delightful. We enjoyed daily outings to beautiful gardens, such as Logan and Castle Douglas, and had some great coastal walks. We even managed swims at Lady Bay. Hosts, Kate and Angus, are very welcoming and helpful. I can highly recommend High Clachan or one of the other cottages on Corsewall Estate.

Sue, Berwick upon Tweed

Well worth it. Lovely cottage, thoughtful interior design, amazing welcome brownies. Loads of beautiful walks, including to a beach in about 10 mins, and great kids play areas without even having to leave the estate. Would highly recommend.

Jonathan, Glasgow

We enjoyed 5 nights at Cedar Lodge. It's very warm, clean and comfortable and everything is to a very high standard. This must be one of the best self catering properties my husband and I have rented. It's very well equipped and practical. Kate and Angus, the owners, are very welcoming and all booking communications have been quickly handled despite problems due to covid restrictions. Many thanks for a lovely stay.

Local points of interest from Kate Carrick-Buchanan

  • Red squirrels are us! We have four feeders dotted about the estate and you can watch the bushy tailed creatures feeding and getting up to their tricks - it's highly entertaining viewing! Other wildlife on the estate includes roe deer, hares and otters.
  • We have a network of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks on the Estate. There are lots of different options for shorter or longer walks and no need to drive anywhere they are on the doorstep. The wildflowers and the sea views are wonderful.
  • The Estate has three lovely beaches so grab a swimming costume/wet suit/paddle board/kayak or a bucket and spade and go!
  • There are lots of gardens to visit in the area including Glenwhan and Castle Kennedy. The jewel in the crown is Logan Botanical Gardens - which has a wonderful array of exotic plants and a tip top cafe to boot too
  • For the great outdoors, head to the Galloway Forest Park and enjoy stunning walks or mountain biking in the hills.
  • With some of the clearest night time skies in the country, you could book a star gazing evening on the Estate with our friendly Dark Skies Park Ranger.
