The Experience

This gracious Georgian house is a 10-minute walk from Princes Street. Step into a warm, raspberry-painted hall that’s lined with art, then settle in a graceful dining room with decanters on the sideboard and a welcoming home-baked something.

Bedrooms are elegant and comfortable with whisky and wine on a tray and smart bathrooms. Wake for breakfast at a beautifully polished table – Angela makes a great Scottish breakfast with black pudding from one of Edinburgh’s best-known butchers (just around the corner) and eggs all different ways. She will also happily rustle up “posh yoghurt” with seasonal sliced fruits, porridge or muesli, croissants and toast along with plenty of coffee, newspapers and chat – she’s easy to talk to and loves having guests to stay.

A short walk gets you to everything: the tram to Murrayfield, art galleries in Princes Street Gardens, museums in Chambers Street, Multrees Walk and George Street’s independent shops. Waverley station is 10 minutes.

Reviews

A lovely stay at Angela's B&B ! We spent 3 nights at this beautiful house, with typical victorian furniture and interesting paintings on Scotland. Angela is a charming hostess, who pays a lot of attention to her guests : you have welcome drinks in your room and everything to treat yourself for an afternoon break, the breakfasts are excellent and typically British. The B&B is also very well located to walk to old town (only 10 min) and still is very quiet. We shall return if we come back to Edimburg !

A very nice house with a library full of books, a beautifull dining room, and all the house decorated with elegant furniture. The rooms are very cozy, large, good beds, with excellent new bathrooms, and super clean. The breakfast was delicious attended personally by Angela. We recommend it 100 %. Thank you Angela, we were very happy in your house.

Ideally located in this central part of town you will be spoilt with sightseeing choices and places to dine, all recommended by Angela. She is the perfect hostess and her breakfasts with the morning papers will set you up for the day. Beautiful bedrooms with a night cap (whiskey) wait by your bedside before you sleep. For sure, 14 Hart street will stay in your "heart" after a stay here. Enjoy!!

Just a delightful place to stay! Great hosts, delicious breakfasts, and very clean and tidy. Also, very secure. Thank you James and Angela. Definitely stay with you on my next visit.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a very quiet but central area. Our hosts were brilliant, the bed was very comfortable and breakfasts were excellent. Our hosts were very helpful re: restaurants, and there are some very good ones in the area. We are looking forward to a return visit. The tray of goodies, tea, coffee and wine was a nice touch, shame we do not drink whisky! The tram from the airport is cheap and reliable, ending just a 5 minute walk from Hart St, as are the buses, but It was easy to walk to so many sights. We loved the house and Edinburgh, thank you so much for a memorable visit.

James and Angela greeted us on arrival. They were very helpful and the place had a really homely feel. Our room was great. Really comfy bed, awesome shower, shortbread, wine and whiskey on arrival. Shortbread and drinks were replenished for day 2 as well. The breakfast was fantastic. We had a full Scottish breakfast both mornings with additional toast, jams, fruit, yoghurt, choice of cereals and mini pancakes. The room, the shower and the breakfast made it very hard to leave! Highly recommended. Very close to all amenities, bars, coffee shops and restaurants.

We stayed two nights having two rooms for my wife and 11 year son. Super location - quiet yet very easy to access all of Edinburgh. Tram will make this even better. James and Angela were great hosts, very helpful, knowledgeable and providers of excellent breakfasts! Lots of good restaurants and delis nearby too. We'll try to rebook when next in Edinburgh.

We had a wonderful two day stay here with some friends. Everything was superb - the welcome, the rooms and the breakfasts. James and Angela were so helpful with anything we wanted to know and couldn't have been nicer. The location is wonderful - so central. 14 Hart Street will definitely be our first choice of a place to stay next time we return to Edinburgh.

Just had a wonderful birthday weekend away at 14 Hart Street – James & Angela (& Louis!) were brilliant hosts, with great recommendations of things to do, and really helpful tips on back-streets routes to see more of the city. They were never intrusive, but went out of their way to make us feel really relaxed – even when we were asking for breakfast at awkward times! The house itself is lovely and very central. I would heartily recommend this to anyone staying in Edinburgh.

Isobel

Friendly, well lit room in attractive Georgian townhouse. Hospitality with excellent freshly cooked breakfast to order by James. Very central location, would always consider visiting in the future if ever in Edinburgh

Rob

It can't get any better! Angela and James should be the example how to run a B&B. beside the fantastic room and service it was their loving, kind attitude which made our stay exceptional. Asking for extras never seemed to be a problem at all. Breakfast cooked by the Chef himself was served with humour and great ease. Thank you James. Thank you Angela....Eddie/Switzerland

From booking right through to the end of our stay we were made to feel most welcome by James and Angela. The house is a Georgian treasure right on the doorstep of the New Town. Plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby too. The room was beautifully decorated. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was small but spotless with a great shower. The sink was very small and was a bit of a challenge to use but a minor inconvenience. To top it off, the whisky and wine were lovely touches. Special mention must go to the fantastic breakfast - quite possibly the best I've had in a B&B.

Cheryl

We chose this accommodation partly because of the central location. Angela and James are so friendly and welcoming and their house is beautiful. On a cold March weekend it was convenient, comfortable and cosy. The breakfast is super - quality ingredients prepared perfectly. We will be recommending a stay at 14 Hart Street to any of our friends planning a visit to Edinburgh

Chris

What do you require from a B&B in town? First of all, location- that everything will be within walking distance, but at the same time, to have the feeling of home. Angela and James' B&B completely answers all of the above. 5 minute walk from Princess Street and the museums. You feel privileged to stay in their beautiful and opulent house, and their advise and tips as what to see and where to eat were spot on. They are very attentive, and even if it is your first time, you feel that you've known them for years and that you'll return as one returns to visit old friends.

Location

The neighbourhood

Hart Street is part of a small, well-preserved and peaceful Georgian area a short walk from the East End of Princes Street. There are many outstanding restaurants nearby, and it’s in easy striking distance of the North Bridge - the link between the New Town and the Old Town - and all the main attractions of this wonderful city: the castle, the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, art galleries and more. A direct bus or tram gets you to Murrayfield for international sporting fixtures and concerts in around 20 minutes. The annual Tattoo and Fringe festivals are held every August.

Local points of interest from Angela Wilson

  • 14 Hart Street lies at the centre of Edinburgh - within the New Town and a short distance from the North Bridge and Princes Street.
  • The great museums, galleries and historic buildings of the city can be reached easily and happily on foot, and we are an ideal base for the Edinburgh Festival and international sporting events.

Introducing

Angela Wilson

Angela knows the history and present-day life of Edinburgh well and is a ready and willing source of advice. Ask her almost anything from bus tickets and shopping to worthwhile places to visit. She and her late husband James taught at a local prep school for many years (History for James and Latin and Greek for Angela). They fell into doing B&B many years ago when a parent at school sent them some Portuguese guests as she’d double booked. Angela still very much enjoys introducing people to this unique city. She has three grandsons, so guests sometimes have to navigate their way around the odd toy or cricket bat as they make their way to the front door!
