Paris in style, with the dog!

Paris is a supremely dog-friendly city. Dogs are welcome on the Metro, in pretty much all public spaces except museums and food shops, and in a super selection of chic hotels. The relaxing of a park-ban in 2019, meaning dogs can now scamper and snuffle around most parks and green spaces, sometimes in designated areas and usually on a lead, has opened up Paris to dog-owning visitors, so here’s a few of our favourite dog-friendly hotels where you and the hound can spend a sophisticated weekend in the French capital.

Hôtel le Relais Montmartre

You’ll feel very ‘Emily in Paris’ strolling the streets of Montmartre, dog in tow, and this jewel of a hotel is the perfect launch pad. On your doorstep are trendy shops, an independent cinema, neighbourhood boulangeries and restaurants. Bedrooms have deep armchairs, woollen throws and colourful fabrics but you do need to bring a bed for your dog. Eat your generous breakfast buffet out in the sunny courtyard on fine days, before taking the short walk to Sacré Coeur or hopping on the metro and zipping over to arc Monceau, L’Arc de Triomphe, the Tuileries or Luxembourg gardens.

Guest Lillie: The staff were wonderful, the room was peaceful and beautifully decorated and the hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Paris.

Le Relais du Louvre

History, elegance and art combine in this special spot near the Louvre, and dogs of any size are welcome for no additional fee. Front rooms look onto a Gothic church and along to the austerely neo-classical Louvre, others onto a light-filled patio. You feel softly secluded and coddled everywhere. The sense of service is highly developed and the staff are wonderful. As there is no dining room, breakfast comes to you. Relax and eat your croissants in bed before taking a stroll to the Jardin des Tuileries. Dogs are allowed in the upper section.

Owner Sophie: Feel the history at Relais du Louvre. During the French Revolution it was the head office of the Journal des Débats, the most widely circulated revolutionary newspaper.

Hôtel Passy Eiffel

This is a calm, leafy bolthole in one of Paris’ most elegant districts and guests are welcome to bring one small dog, up to 5kg, for €5 per night. Step off the smart shopping street and breathe deeply in this calm atmosphere, a restful mix of old-fashioned and contemporary styles. Lounge in the glassed-in veranda or the tiny cobbled yard. There is a comfortable salon and an inviting breakfast room off the panelled hall. Some bedrooms have excellent views of the Eiffel Tower. Explore stylish boutiques, good bakeries – and the tower, of course. Promenade down the elegant Champs Elysées.

Owner Christine: Take a romantic walk on the shores of the Seine, go for a run in the Bois de Boulogne, visit the numerous monuments and cultural sites of Paris.
