The Experience

You’ll love your hosts: Jatin, attentive and hands-on; Laurence, easy, serene and a good cook (try her nougat ice cream!). The wing of their 19th-century presbytery, once used for christenings and confirmations, has become a plush and pretty gite, with bedrooms that can be rented individually. Extremely cosy and comfortable, they come in fashionable muted colours or in Asian style; mattresses are deep and firm, and garnished with square French pillows. Downstairs are the sitting and dining rooms, elegant and cool. The village is remote with a 13th-century church; beyond are the vineyards of Champagne.

Reviews

We were made extremely welcome by Jatin, our very attentive host. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed our pre arranged 3 course dinner, sharing the dining table with the other guests. Laurence, Jatin’s wife, is a very accomplished chef. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. A great stopover if travelling through France.

Lu, London

The Presbytere has been beautifully restored and offers most comfortable accommodation. Jatin was a perfect and attentive host and was always on hand to ensure we were well looked after. He recommended a delightful restaurant in a neighbouring village where we enjoyed an exceptional dinner. The village is attractive and peaceful and set in attractive countryside. We would be delighted to return if circumstances allow.

Howard, Bournemouth

What a beautiful place. The accomodation was outstanding with great attention to every detail. We were the only occupants during our stay of two nights. Laurence and Jonte were excellent hosts and very generous in what was available without charge. We had dinner on both nights which we really enjoyed and breakfast was also very good.We would definately stay again.

Angela, Ledbury, Herefordshire

Friendly and comfortable b and b, with welcoming hosts. Simple meals offered as half board.

Pat, North Vancouver

This lovely house and its owners fulfilled all our expectations. We were the only guests on a Sunday evening after a ski holiday in Switzerland and as we were not bound by school holidays, we had an extra night in France. The meal was excellent, and the chats with the owners were enjoyable, especially as we conversed in English. The dining room and lounge provided delightful ambience and we hope we can visit again.

Stuart Michael, Cirencester

This is one of the best Sawday places we have stayed in! The hosts are charming and very welcoming and on a Sunday evening they provided us with an excellent meal in their attractive dining room. They showed us the photos of the dilapidated buildings as they were in 2003 when they took it over. The transformation is incredible. We would love to return - it is only 25 minutes from the autoroute.

We were given a very warm welcome by Laurence & Jatin to their delightful home after we'd endured an unfortunate day's travel. Their tranquil, beautiful home they have created allowed our problems to swiftly evaporate. The room was superb with a most comfortable bed and views over their courtyard. The swooping swallows were massing for their flight south & were a delight to see. Sadly we weren't able to sample Laurence's home cooking thatevening, but we recommended an excellent restaurant in a nearby village. The breakfast the following morning with homemade jam was excellent! Thank you!

Iain, Edinburgh

Really nice place, fabulous hosts, lovely food!

Chris

Absolutely wonderful. The welcome, the rooms and the food were top class. We are already planning our next visit with friends

Nigel, Buckland village

We stayed here for one night at the start of our holiday in France. Laurence and her husband Jatin are such charming hosts. The accommodation has been lovingly restored. The rooms are gorgeous and the lounge and dining area are also delightful. All done in a "shabby chic" style which I love. Even the plates and cups where gorgeous! We loved everything about the place. We had an evening meal here and that was delicious. Breakfast was very tasty with plenty to eat and high quality food. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Sara, Chorley

Delightful place to stay. Beautifully decorated and furnished, delicious breakfasts and evening meal (if you want) and extremely helpful, friendly hosts. Thoroughly recommend it.

Local points of interest from Laurence & Jatin Janray

  • A former presbytary close to the village's fortified listed church. There are sixty other fortified churches to visit in the surroundings.
  • We restored the presbytary on our own. It was a ruin when we bought it.
  • The house interconnected with a tunnel system with the church and the village castle.
  • During the wars the house was occupied by the German soldiers. There is a Commonwealth Grave of an English soldier in the Cemetery surrounding the church.
  • At 15 minutes from our home, you can visit Asfeld church, a unique Viola di Gamba shaped church. Every 2 years is held a baroque festival.
  • You can visit Reims with its famous Champagne Houses and the Cathedral. Laon is also a nice place to visit with its cathedral and medieval houses. It was the Capital of France during the Middle Ages.
