The Experience
The house is higgledy-piggledy and 200 years old, rustic and charming. It stands on the side of a hill on the edge of a small Moorish village in the Parque Natural, an hour from Córdoba and Granada, surrounded by farmland. Outside on sloping land are hammocks and picnic tables, figs, almonds, olives and vines, and a small upper terrace overlooking an inviting little pool.
Inside, old doors have become headboards and the cool downstairs bedroom (once the pantry!) now has twin beds and opens onto a terrace. All four bedrooms are simple, with delightful thick walls, modest beds, fluffy towels and characterful touches. In the sitting room are books, antiques and modern art.
Breakfast consists of all the usual suspects but you’ll also get olive oil and tomate rallado, Spanish style. Clive cooks delicious dinners, often using their own vegetables, herbs and fruit, which are as Andalusian as possible.

We spent five wonderful days with Maki and Clive, which we will remember for a long time. From the very first moment we felt very comfortable at the Finca las Encinas. The surrounding is wonderfully quiet, the house and the pool invite you to relax, the whole atmosphere is very warm and hospitable. The food Clive makes is simply great. Enjoying these dinners on the terrace with a view of the Andalusian hills enriched our holiday and made us very happy. We are already planning to come back. Thanks to Maki and Clive, you are great host.

An excellent spot for just relaxing or as a central base for touring most of the landmark cities of Andalucia. Rooms are basic and rustic, clean and comfortable. The pool is very welcome in the heat with great views of the inevitable Olive trees of the area. Maki and Clive are friendly and welcoming with plenty of advice on how to enjoy the sights and flavours of this part of Spain. Talking of flavours, Clive is a superb chef and the evening meals are a delight of fresh, local fare. I have an interest in cooking and just wish I could have stayed for one of Clive's popular cookery courses.

A wonderful holiday, perfect for us. Attractive finca, delightful setting, the real Spain for us. We'd been to Córdoba, Granada and Seville in the past and wanted to visit small towns and villages nearby, which were delightful. Clive and Maki are a remarkable couple and Cei makes it extra special. Clive's cooking is superb, gourmet without gourmet prices, using fresh local produce with the Spanish touch. Maki is artistic and creative in the rooms, lent us maps and advised on parking etc. We enjoyed their company on the terrace on a range of topics as evening fell. A very special holiday

Location
The neighbourhood
Walks in the beautiful Parque will be magical, surrounded by beauty and wildlife. The village of Iznájar is a 10-minute drive. It's a wonderful place which overlooks a reservoir on the Genil river, with narrow streets of whitewashed houses, a castle and churches. A small weekly market is brimming with good things and you'll love the central square with its kissing corner (El Rincón de los Besos).
Local points of interest from Maki Murakushi Ridout & Clive A Ridout
- A visit to a charming white-washed village of Iznajar, only a short drive, is a must - feel its varied history, explore the narrow streets and see the stunning views of the Lake Iznajar and the surrounding countryside carpeted with ancient olive trees.
- Lonely Planet ´Experience Andalucia´ 2023 edition features our B&B! Come to Iznajar and enjoy outdoor sports such as cycling, hiking, kayaking, lake cruise, or just relax and enjoy the tranquility of our enchanting environment.
- Discover the hidden jewels such as a Baroque town of Priego de Cordoba, and a picturesque mountain village of Zuheros , in the Natural Park of la Sierra Subbetica and the wonder of the nature.
- Learn the difference between the high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the ordinary. We can arrange a visit to the olive mill and olive oil tasting. It is educational and informative to get into the world of Olive Oil or the natural juice of olives.
- Participate in our fun-filled cooking courses to get inspired with a guidance of an owner/chef Clive. Our original recipes have been featured in a cookbook released in December 2018 - Andaluz: A Food Journey Through Southern Spain by Fiona Dunlop.
- We are awarded with SICTED´s "Compromiso de Calidad Turística" which is a quality accreditation which recognises the commitment and effort made by the participating businesses in promoting a safe and quality tourism product and destination like Iznajar.

Introducing
Maki Murakushi Ridout & Clive A Ridout
Maki, Japanese, introduces you to Montilla wine and olive-tasting tours. Clive, Welsh, offers guests cookery courses that are easy, fun and delicious – he has been a professional chef for over 30 years and loves to share his passion. They live here with their family dog and two cats.
I went for 4 days 3 nights and my only regret was not staying longer. Very comfortable, clean, and aesthetic. The food was divine and the cooking course with Clive was so fun! Maki and Clive made me feel at home, gave me great advice on day trips and sent me home with olive oil, oranges and bay leaves. I’ll be back again!
