In the face of European homogenisation, Greece has hung onto its quintessential humanity (hospitality to strangers, a propensity for face-to-face business) while embracing some of the more tourist-friendly innovations (road signs, proper breakfasts, western plumbing). Of course, things don't always go as planned – if they did, it wouldn't be Greece – but you get there in the end, and with a few extra memories to boot.
