Another enchanting farm building at L'Oudon, another fine restoration. This was the old cider press, its ground floor now a vast, light living space, comfortable and contemporary. You find big leather sofas, beautiful floor-to-ceiling curtains and an ultra-chic wood-burning stove. A gorgeous kitchen/diner leads to a private garden; there's a big, bold, sunny bedroom and the paved and furnished terrace is as inviting as all the rest. Walls are white plaster or light-gold stone, floors are pale-tiled, there are old beams and joists and new windows to pull in the light. Ascend the staircase with tiled treads to a mezzanine with sofa and two skylit bedrooms under the eaves, one large, both delightful. Bathrooms shine. The charming Vesques give you cider, homemade jam and farm eggs on arrival, and everything is included in the price, from linen to logs. Twice a week there's table d'hôtes – a chance to meet the B&B and other guests over a civilised meal. The orchards, rich pastures and half-timbered manor houses of the Pays d'Auge are yours to discover.
