The family bought the Bodrifty estate, high on the moors, drawn by the setting and the history: wonderful views to Mounts Bay and an Iron Age settlement across the fields. To celebrate the millennium, a Celtic replica roundhouse was built – with a king-sized green oak four-poster bed. Now, in the ivy-smothered barn across the way, there's an artistic bolthole for two. Step in to find whitewashed stone walls, stripped pine floors, heaps of charm. There's an airy, light, open-plan living space, cream carpeted and sofa'd with a red wood-burner and French windows out to a sunny patio. Upstairs and off the wood-and-white kitchen is your bedroom, cosy and snug: plum velvet cushions on a white goose down duvet, books, fresh flowers. Find Cornish landscapes on the walls, a friendly dresser bright with pottery, a kit room for wet coats and muddy boots, a library of films to cosy up in front of. Private lawns for games and barbecues, resplendent night skies, St Ives a five-mile drive. Wonderful.
