Go for a break in England’s first national park, The Peak District, to hike up rugged hills, visit stately homes, tuck into hearty food by pub fires and discover eccentric traditions like the annual well dressings. Picturesque towns nestle between heather-clad moors and limestone dales with the magnificent Chatsworth Estate a jewel in the landscape.

Conquer a few ‘Ethels’, cycle the Monsal Trail, visit the famous plague village or try any number of watersports at Carsington Water. Settle into the gentle rhythm of Peak District life with a stay in a traditional pub with rooms, a cosy cottage in the Dovetail Valley, a grand country house hotel or something equally special and unique from our collection.

About our special places to stay in the Peak District

Which town is best to stay in the Peak District?

Bakewell and Buxton are both scenic market towns that make a great base for exploring the Peak District. The large spa town of Buxton is surrounded by walking trails and has a wealth of restaurants and shops as well as an opera house, landscaped gardens and a lively program of festivals. Bakewell is smaller but closer to Chatsworth House with a weekly market and plenty of cafés serving its famous Bakewell Tarts.

Where is the prettiest place in the Peak District?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and with so many pretty places in the Peak District, it’s impossible to choose one overall winner. The picturesque villages of Eyam and Hathersage brim with character, historic buildings, cafés and pubs, while Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Monsal Head stand out as spectacular natural beauty spots in the wild landscape.

Is it worth going to the Peak District?

Easily accessible by road and rail, the Peak District offers a bit of everything, from natural beauty and outdoor adventures, to stately houses, cultural events and picturesque villages where life moves at a slower pace. Fuel your explorations with a visit to a tea room for a quintessential afternoon tea or a local craft ale in an oak-beamed pub with a roaring fire.
