The Experience
Jonathan and Caroline love it here and are incredibly proud of the world they’ve created. There’s a smart terrace at the front, a comfy sitting room, and some seriously fancy bathrooms. This 19th-century Victorian-Gothic house was once home to a retired vicar, hence the ecclesiastic windows. Outside, an ancient Himalayan cedar shades the lawn. Inside an easy style flows throughout. The big sitting room doubles as the bar and the bedrooms – some warmly traditional, others nicely contemporary – have Zoffany fabrics and flat-screen TVs; most have fancy bathrooms, some have big views, the bathroom in the coach-house suite is out of this world. Tuck into a hearty Cumbrian Grill breakfast in the dining room with views to the front or on the terrace in good weather. There’s plenty of space in the lounge for an evening drink or to curl up with a book. The Windermere Jetty Museum is on the doorstep.

Local points of interest from Jonathan & Caroline Kaye
- All our rooms have been refurbished and the furniture is all manufactured right here in Windermere.
- Hills to Climb - numerous but our local hill, Orrest Head, sitting behind the Hotel, overlooks Windermere and the panoramic view is stunning. Alfred Wainwright’s first ever hill climb!
- Windermere Lake - England's largest Lake, just 1/4 mile stroll along a bridle path starting at the hotel.
- Blackwell House, one of the best examples of an Arts and Crafts House, just 2 miles away overlooking the lake.
- Bigland Hall for horse riding, beginners through to experienced riders, 25 minutes drive and bookable via the hotel.
- Mountain Goat Tours, one of the easiest ways to see the Lakes, take a 10 Lakes Tour and spend the day seeing and experiencing the Lake District. Bookable via the Hotel with pick-ups at Cedar Manor on a daily basis.
