Feel yourselves unwind easily in this 1800s barn, with your own entrance and an un-overlooked garden. A lobby by the front door has hooks for jackets and space for muddy boots, then you walk straight in to an open-plan living room with linen sofa and comfy chair, an electric fire for extra warmth and glow, good lighting and soft colours. A table at the window looks over the quiet lane and there are GWR and London Underground posters linking London with Devon.

You’ll find all the kit you need in the snazzy kitchen along with a bountiful welcome hamper: bread, butter, eggs, bacon, posh crisps and thoughtful treats. On sunny days you can sunbathe in the garden on teak loungers with squishy covers and, when evening falls, get the gas barbecue going and sizzle something delicious.

The shower is sparkling and roomy, the bed is smartly dressed, lighting is designed for readers and you should sleep deeply in the profound peace.
