The Experience

You’re a long way from anything, down a narrow lane on a 60-acre farm; in spring the wildflowers will be lovely and the birdsong loud. The owners leave you maps for all the best walks locally and you’re near to both Exmoor and Dartmoor for serious jaunts. Return to an L-shaped sofa and a wood-burner if it gets chilly.

Cooking will be fun in the big kitchen – pick up some wonderful local food and wine from the Exe Valley Farm Shop (15 minutes by car) and bring it all back to cook up a storm, eat by candlelight at the wooden table, or take it outside and light the fire pit. There’s little light pollution down here so on clear nights you’ll be able to stargaze.

Bubble away in a bath for two then climb the stairs to the mezzanine bedroom for a nest of linen, throws and cushions and a peaceful nod off.

Reviews

We loved every minute of our weekend at Redbrick Barn. The grounds were amazing and the barn itself was more than we expected it to be. It was cosy, comfortable and very unique. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for being such great hosts!

Bianca, Plymouth

We loved every minute of our stay at Redbrick Barn. Pitt Farmhouse is in the most extraordinary elevated position looking south down the River Exe valley and staying in the Barn for the weekend meant we could live up there too. Incredible views from walks around the fields full of new lambs surrounding the Barn and the Studio. The landscaping, garden and the exquisitely curated interiors have been thought through by Patrick and Tahi: very private, great beds and entertaining space, extensive welcome pack, very effective heating and log burner and no plastic in sight. Thank you.

Tabitha, London

Luxurious and cosy barn in a perfect setting. A wonderful place.

Kate, London

This loft conversion is second to none. It has everything you could need for a really special stay. Although sadly we didn't meet the owners they were excellent at communicating and very helpful. The surrounding area and walks are magnificent and we would highly recommend it for a much longer stay than our three days! Most importantly for us, it's beautifully designed and appointed, perfectly quiet with a wonderfully comfortable bed and bath, chairs and sofas. Perfect!

Joanna, Bath

We frequently book high end weekend getaways in remote locations, but what stood out for us was not only the extremely high standard of the accommodation and accessories but more so the authenticity and great care taken to put the interior together. Nothing seemed left to chance. The layout with the high open ceiling and wood burner just wants you to hang out and enjoy a relaxed evening with a good bottle of wine. The hosts were very responsive and accommodating. Top marks from us on all levels.

Tim, Chalfont St Giles

Although close to Exeter, Redbrick Barn Loft feels as if a world away, down narrow lanes and farm tracks, with spectacular views. The barn is a very stylish, welcoming retreat. I came away relaxed and refreshed.

Susie, Nottingham

Lovely stay at New Year at the loft. The accommodation was cozy and just what I wanted. I have and would recommend the Red brick barn to family and friends and I definitely would return myself, in summer to enjoy the balcony and fire pit area

Natalie, Bedfordshire

Redbrick Barn Loft is a stunning retreat in a beautiful location. Stylish interiors and home comforts with a wonderful log burner make it the perfect pad to return to after a day exploring. The deck gets afternoon sunshine so a nice spot to enjoy an al fresco meal.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're wrapped in quiet mid-Devon so the walks from the door are grand - you can bring your dog but there's no enclosed garden. The nearest village is Thorverton (a 40-minute walk) for a good pub, The Thorverton Arms and a pretty Gothic church. Serious cyclists can take the Tarka Trail to the north coast for surfing, gentler beaches can be found to the south.

Local points of interest from Patrick & Tahi

  • Devon is renowned for its traditional pubs. Warm and welcoming with low ceilings and the faint whiff of smoke from log fire. Beer on draft, scratchings, and a dog at your feet. You won’t be disappointed with the choice of local pubs within 5M radius.
  • Local circular walks from your doorstep. Weave around country lanes and bridal paths, taking in wonderful rural scenery and wildlife. Suitable for moderate walkers who aren't put off by the odd hill. The views will make it well worth the effort.
  • Wild Dartmoor or pretty Exmoor -Great Walks for all levels. Explore wilderness, stone circles and ancient woods at Dartmoor, or the more gentle scenery and river banks at Exmoor. Both are perfect for walkers picnics and have traditional pub options.
  • North Devon Beaches & Villages -Stunning coastlines and popular surf spots. There are plenty of walking options, unspoilt beaches and hidden coves that suit all ages and swimming abilities. Plenty of pubs, beach cafes, and water activities.
  • East Devon Beaches - Long pebbled beaches, safe swimming and old fishing communities make East Devon a wonderful day out. Try your hand at mackerel fishing, or enjoy a crab sandwich on the beach, this is the place to do it.
  • South Devon - Historic towns with smart restaurants, wealthy patrons and boutique shops. With nearby beaches and boating communities, it's the ideal spot to hire a water taxi, order a pint of prawns and drink Salcombe gin while you watch the world go by.
