The Experience
Drive through Surrey parkland grazed by rare breed cattle to reach this sweet hideaway. The circular cottage topped with a terracotta turret is quite unlike any other B&B you’re likely to visit. It’s set into a corner of Alison’s lovely walled garden, with oval windows overlooking the park. It looks tiny from the outside but inside there is everything you could need. Step straight into the bedroom with pretty fabrics and a well-dressed bed.
Along a corridor leading to the sparkling shower room, there’s a double-fronted cupboard concealing an immaculate little kitchen. Alison provides homemade bread, marmalade, bacon, tomatoes and eggs, so you can rustle up your breakfast as late as you like and sit at the little table by the window.
The front door opens onto the walled garden, awash with clambering roses in summer, where you can take meals when it’s balmy – or head to the White Horse in Cranleigh, 1.6 miles, for very good food.

The Venison House is a wonderful place to get away from it all! It is very comfortable, well-appointed, and located in beautiful Surrey countryside. Add in the care and attention of Alison and Michael, and the boundless energy and welcome of their dog Biba, and you have the perfect location for your next break. Home-baked bread, homemade marmalade, and all the ingredients for that perfect breakfast. We also took up Alison's kind offer to reserve a table (outside) for dinner at a local gastropub, taking the hot water bottles she had provided for our comfort. This is typical of what awaits you.

Home away from home... Alison & Michael go the extra mile to make sure your stay is perfect. They welcomed us with some homemade bread and a birthday card for my wife. They also made us excellent dinner reservations and thoughtfully gave us written directions. The surrounding views are breathtaking and the local towns are picturesque. Time seems to have a mind of its own when you switch off at Vension House. It is the perfect spot for getting away from the world and Biba, the friendliest dog ever, will charm you over - you have been warned :)

We had a wonderfully peaceful and cosy 2 night stay in the beautiful Venison House. Small and perfectly formed, with everything you need provided with chic style by Alison. All the extras were very much appreciated, especially the delicious homemade bread. Stunning views, the second morning had a sprinkling of snow which made it even more magical!

We had such a wonderful relaxing break staying in the Venison House. Waking up to the most beautiful views across the parkland that we walked later in the day. Alison's breakfast couldn't have been better; the homemade bread she left for us was such a wonderful touch. Both Alison and Michael are such lovely, warm, friendly people, but totally not intrusive at all. So happy we found this gorgeous little house, and we'll definitely go back.

The Venison House is a little oasis of chic, peaceful, loveliness in the midst of the bustling South East. The owner, Alison, is the most wonderfully warm, welcoming, diplomatic hostess who is there if you need her but keeps out of the way to allow one to enjoy the sanctuary of 'The Venison House', in peace, if that is what you would prefer. I cannot recommend this little gem, highly enough, and if you are seeking a romantic 'getaway' from the stresses and strains of daily life, then this is definitely the place for you!! Love this place and love Alison!!

Introducing
Alison Bennett
Alison, previously an interior designer, and Michael who was a pilot in the Royal Marines are very experienced hosts. They ran a B&B for many years before coming here and restoring their house, the gardens and the Venison House. Alison is a mine of information about where to go and what to do.
We really enjoyed our stay. A beautiful setting with rich history. We recommend the walk up to and in the forest which rewards with some stunning views. Also lovely fresh breakfast items including homemade bread, marmalade, and locally picked blackberries. Many thanks Alison!
