The Experience
The house is much larger than it looks. On the ground floor there is an ultra modern galley kitchen, well kitted out with all the gear even a fussy cook could want, and a dining room with a beautiful Danish wooden table for convivial meals. There are two sitting rooms, one with a sleek wood-burner and TV and the other for escapees with another TV. For rainy days you’ll find books and games and a good bottle of wine is waiting for you.
The outdoor terrace is ideal for al fresco lunches and suppers with a barbecue and beyond is a larger garden for sitting quietly with a book or sunbathing on a lounger. Bedrooms are on the first and second floors and have very comfortable handmade beds with good linen and tasteful art. The loft level rooms have super views over Lewes and the Weald or the South Downs.
Walkers will be happy on the South Downs Way and you can stroll down the road into town for shops, restaurants, museums and a cinema.

Alex has worked hard to create a "high spec" and visually pleasing home in this quiet residential area on the edge of Lewes, a short walk from the Downs. Upstairs views are spectacular and there is everything that a guest could want - whether staying in the house to cook or relax or whether exploring the wonderful countryside or nearby historical sites, antique shops or eateries of Lewes.

The house was simply wonderful. Tasteful art and furniture everywhere, fresh cotton sheets and a lovely spacious but intimate feel to it. There were just three of us staying and we had such a nourishing and rejuvenating stay at Lewes Heights, very much appreciating the location and particularly the access to relaxing walks. Two reception rooms were great to have, and the garden was sunny and private. We will definitely be back.

The neighbourhood
The old historic centre of Lewes is charming and a 15-20 minute walk downhill from the house. Spend a day here exploring little markets, visiting the castle or museum, walking its winding lanes and discovering history going back to the Saxon times. There are good pubs and restaurants and some smart shops too. You can catch the train to Glyndebourne or head to Brighton for a day in The Lanes.

- The house is situated a few minutes away from the South Downs Way which follows the old routes and droveways along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs. Enjoy the stunning long distance views, picturesque villages and thatched pubs.
- You are a short downhill stroll through pretty streets to the town centre. Here you will find numerous antique shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy at your leisure. And if the bustling town of Brighton appeals, that's just 17 minutes away by train.
- Pells Pool: The original structure was built in 1860 making it the oldest freshwater outdoor public swimming baths in the United Kingdom that is still operating. A Lewes icon!
- The Depot is a state-of-the-art new three-screen boutique cinema in the centre of Lewes (a 15 minute walk). Ideal for dinner or a pre-movie drink. And take your drinks into the cinema. Everyone loves the Depot!
- The world famous opera house, Glyndebourne, is a 9 minute train ride away, or 15 minutes in a car. See the world's greatest opera singers in action, and take your dinner hamper and black tie for a fabulous and memorable summer evening.
- Lewes is the home of the famous Harvey's brewery. If you enjoy a pint, Lewes has 17 pubs to choose from along with a few new pop up craft beer establishments. We love the Swan for its atmosphere and great food.

Alex Marshall
Alex (who used to teach the Alexander Technique) is a Funeral Celebrant currently training to be a therapist and Gabrielle (an artist) bought the house in 2016 and have renovated it with great care and attention. Furniture and art have been thoughtfully and imaginatively chosen. You let yourselves in with a key safe but they are nearby if you need anything.
The house is located in an excellent neighborhood, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and access to public grounds. The walk to town is on a pleasant route that we loved. The house is very stylish and comfortable, the garden is a delight, and the hosts were caring and communicative. The kitchen lends itself to cooking and serving. We enjoyed the gas fire and appreciated the separate study at the end of the garden. The children reveled in the books and puzzles and the adult found reading that made us want to stay longer. We have just found a jewel.
