The Experience

Built in the 18th century, this was the gatehouse to Edington Priory and still has some of the ancient flag stones, vast beams and panelling, arched windows and stone fireplaces – it’s a house of much character and dignity but still cosy. There are two sitting rooms, one more formal with the open fireplace and comfy seating, the other with a wood-burner, books, TV and Sonos speaker.

The big kitchen is nifty for cooks with plenty of room for helpers, an electric Aga, double fridge, smart coffee machine and a wooden table for sociable meals – on sunnier days you can eat outdoors on the patio with its gas barbecue, fire pit and wonderful views over the apple orchard. Bedrooms are spread over the first floor and up in the eaves – all charming and comfortable; bathrooms have Bramley soaps and lotions.

Walk 15 minutes to the pub for superb meals with home-brewed ales, stock up at the farm shop, buy lovely gifts to take home.
