The Experience

Come to unwind in this quiet part of Wiltshire, excellent for walking, cycling, visiting Salisbury or just sitting in the garden with a book and listening to birdsong. Inside is light and fresh with bright upholstery in the sitting room and lots of pictures on the walls. On dull days there’s an open fire, books to read, games to play and a Dansette record player with a box of records.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, both overlooking the garden with a blend of modern and antique furniture and gorgeous fabrics. The kitchen is a good size and has underfloor heating, a table near the garden end and plenty of space at the business end with attractive vintage china, glasses and dishes. A handy utility room for muddy boots is off here and you’ll find milk in the fridge and a welcome hamper.

A charming cottage garden faces south, has a lawn, an ancient apple tree and lots of seating for sunbathers or al fresco meals.

Reviews

This is a lovely cottage that has been very sympathetically updated. It would suit walkers who like cooking locally-sourced delicious food at home and relaxing beside a fire listening to records (pick one of the owner's or bring your favourites with you).

Location

The neighbourhood

Downton is 10 minutes by car (or an hour's walk) for The Goat and The Wooden Spoon (both good). Salisbury is a 10-15 minute drive for lots of independent shops, the Charter Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays as well as a good baker on the square, and butcher and fishmonger in Fish Row. Visit the dreamy cathedral or several NT houses and gardens nearby. Wilton House is 15 minutes and Roche Court sculpture park is half an hour.

Local points of interest from Claire Acock
