The Experience

Huge doors let light flood in and the views are green and gorgeous. On warm days you’ll leave them flung open so you can potter in and out freely, when it’s chillier you’ll be perfectly comfortable indoors with armchairs, TV with English channels and a kettle and fridge for cups of tea.

Breakfast is brought to your room, or in good weather served by the owners’ pool (towels provided) which you can use at arranged times. Locally baked bread and pastries and seasonal fruit will set you up for long walks or cycles through glorious countryside.

On summer evenings you can walk (uphill) through woods and wheat fields into town – Belvès – medieval and with troglodyte caves to explore. You’ll also find a wine bar which will do home deliveries of meat or cheese platters.

Reviews

We had a wonderful three days at La Banne. From the time we arrived right up to our departure Neil and David were excellent hosts, very friendly and helpful, ensuring we had all we needed. The location, whilst giving us wonderful views and tranquility, was close enough to Belves to enable us to enjoy pleasant walks there and back. A recommended restaurant a short drive away was superb. A mixture of peace without isolation was just what we were seeking. The room was spacious with a seating area, fridge and TV should we have required it. Breakfasts were generous, tasty and varied .

Beautiful, quiet, peaceful location near Belves. The room was perfectly prepared with everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Neil and David are superb hosts: friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, great company. Rightfully proud of La Banne, they enjoy sharing their lovely space with their guests. Breakfast was epic with variety each day. The area is a fantastic location for cycling with excellent roads and light traffic. Although not tested, off-road looks good for gravel and mountain bikes. A great holiday made special by Neil and David's great Chambre d'Hotes and hosting.

We had a fantastic stay at Neil and David’s place. The room was perfect, the garden was beautiful and it was only a short walk into the local village. Can’t recommend highly enough!

When we arrived, we were greeted by our hosts and shown around the lovely grounds which has a view between the trees of nearby Bèlves. This property is well situated in a tranquil setting, but close enough to Belvès for a nice stroll and convenient for Monpazier. When our host, learned that we were on a property seeking trip he shared many contacts and tips which was much appreciated. Throughout our stay we enjoyed the lovely breakfasts provided and used the immaculate heated pool. We will be returning to the area shortly and would recommend Domaine de la Banne to anyone.

A lovely relaxing stay in a very comfortable room in a fabulous location. We had a wonderful time relaxing by the pool having eaten a great breakfast prepared for us by our hosts. Many thanks to our hosts for their welcoming hospitality. We would thoroughly recommend a visit!

Claire, Bristol

This is first class accommodation with perfect hosts. The rooms are excellent and the grounds are stunning. You need to visit to really appreciate it. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts who helped us with places to visit and eat. If you want the ideal place to relax by the pool with stunning views and within striking distance of tourist attractions in the Dordogne, then this is the place for you. We cannot recommend it enough. We will return!

We stayed at the B&B for 2 nights & we really enjoyed our stay, the room is large & very clean it has everything you need. We loved the breakfast served outside with beautiful views into the garden. You have seating outside in the garden with views over to Belvès. Neil & David are very friendly & helpful hosts.

Margaret, Wakefield

What a great stop-over! A large room with ample seating, great views and lovely grounds to wander in. Breakfast by the pool is a real treat, sheltered beneath the small covered terrace but with views of the nearest village. I'd love to snuggle up in an outdoor blanket in one of the hammocks and listen out for nightingales.

Location

The neighbourhood

Hire bikes and explore the tiny village, which does have a bakery. Find cycle tracks, waymarked walks, the river Dordogne just 5kms away at Siorac-en-Périgord for launching canoes or paddle boards. There are castle visits and walks along the river. There are wonderful medieval villages and towns to explore, markets to buy local produce, châteaux to admire and history to soak up, all within easy reach.

Local points of interest from Neil Walker

  • Enjoy a pleasant, 25 minute walk through country lanes, passing Sagelat’s 12th century church, up to the medieval village of Belvès with its restaurants, café-bars and weekly Saturday morning market.
  • Easy access to many châteaux and gardens, each with their own unique history and heritage, including Château des Milandes once owned by the famous jazz singer, Josephine Baker and Jardins de Marqueyssac famed for its overhanging gardens and box hedges.
  • An unforgettable experience is a flight in a hot air balloon taking in the full grandeur of the Dordogne valley and river. See the architectural and breathtaking landscapes from an entirely different perspective.
  • Cycling enthusiasts can hire bikes for collection or delivery from a company based in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle with a discount given to our guests. For walkers there are many great routes on the doorstep taking you through stunning woodlands and countryside.
  • Enjoy a delicious meat or cheese platter (or both) at Planches et Plonk wine bar in Belvès as featured in Channel 4's 'A New Life In The Sun'. They do takeaway platters too!
  • Stroll around Sarlat's bustling market only 40 minutes away, discovering fresh local produce and delicacies to give you a taste of French life.
