The Experience

This gracious 1790 manor house is tucked in a small hamlet between two local towns, so you won’t feel like you’re in some far-flung place. It’s well-situated on the banks of the Dordogne, between vineyards and forest – hop on walking or cycling trails from the door, or hire kayaks and glide serenely down the river.

Inside, there are two grand salons, a stunning dining room all with crackling fires, tea, coffee and an honesty bar. If you B&B, your hosts offer breakfast and table d’hôte, if you self-cater in either the main house or the smaller cottage in the grounds, you have swish kitchens with all the gear you need to feed a tribe. Bedrooms are impressive, two suites have their own sitting rooms, the twin room is sweet, all have modern private or en suite bathrooms.

The Dordogne is at your feet: vineyards galore and an award-winning market in the closest town, Sainte Foy. Return for a game of pétanque, table tennis and laps of the pool.

Reviews

It would be hard to choose between the two suites: 'Amelie' up in the roof with its space and views or 'Heather' with its beautiful antique silk wall covering. But you would be more than comfortable in any bedroom and cosseted by Rob and Vanessa, encouraged to lounge by the delectable lavender-scented pool while enjoying a good local wine from the honesty bar.

Patricia, Sawday's Inspector

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks holidaying at Manoir La Grande which is a perfect place for a family. It is well equipped with a beautiful terrace to enjoy meals outside with a big garden and stunning pool.

Arek, Amsterdam

The house is incredibly stylish but in a homely and comfortable way with beautiful décor and furnishings throughout. The peaceful pool area is surrounded by lavender so the scent follows you as you have a dip. The local wines of course are amazing! It’s in a great location to explore the region - Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emilion are all close by. All in all, faultless and we loved it.

Ally, Stroud

The rooms were all cosy and beautiful in their own unique way. Major plus points for the large beds and softest sheets ever. We sat by the pool which was wonderful, with comfortable sun beds, large clean pool and drinks in the bar to cool off. A perfect way to relax. On days that the weather wasn't great, we visited the neighbouring towns, went to antique stores (there are a bunch of great ones on the way to Saint-Émilion) and went canoeing on the Dordogne. To sum it all up, the house is beautiful, the location is ideal 10/10 would recommend!

Helene, Lyon

The rooms are outstanding with super comfortable beds and amazing bathrooms. After cycling through vineyards, canoeing on the Dordogne or visiting beautiful local villages, the day ends relaxing by the beautiful pool, surrounded by lavender or under the big trees in the garden.

Luke, Belgium

The hosts go above and beyond when ensuring our comfort, facilities clean and beautiful We rented the whole house, so had lots of space to relax, both inside and outside in the garden. Our hosts were fantastic at arranging dinners, taxis, checking that all was well every day. The pool area is fantastic, and the extra facilities of the bar and the pool room are lovely. We had use of 4 bikes to get to the local village.

Andrea, Cheltenham

The house is beautiful, classic, with large garden and great swimming pool. We really enjoyed the peace!”

Introducing

Robert Gray

Vanessa and Robert fell in love with Le Manoir on a road trip through Europe in 2019; they moved in not long afterwards with their young son, Barnaby, and Rosie the dog. As well as being hugely welcoming hosts, Robert works in hospitality marketing and Vanessa is a recruitment consultant and estate agent, so they are expert at spinning many plates. They know lots about the area and can advise.
