The Experience
This historic château is formidable, its walls impregnable and the views are wide. It has been in Odile’s family since the 1950s so she knows the region inside-out too: set off on walks from the doorstep and explore Vaucluse, Drôme, Ardèche and Gard. Drive to the famous underground caves of Aven d’Orgnac and Grotte de la Cocalière in 30 minutes.
Sprawl out in the huge living room, bathed in sunlight with exposed stone walls, comfy sofas and Odile’s sculptures. Pick up organic produce from the market on Saturdays and gather everyone to cook in the well-equipped, country-style kitchen.
For wild swimming and canoeing head to the Gorge d’Ardèche (30-minute drive), Barjac (35 minutes) for antiques and markets, and Nîmes (one hour) for fascinating Roman remains. Return to a picnic in the pretty walled Italian garden, shade yourself under the mulberry trees, walk among the flowerbeds.

A room with a view: from the vast terrace of your hilltop chateau enjoy wide scenery. Magic. While looking down over old village roofs, contemplate past battles and religious conflicts from this fortified setting and marvel at the calm beauty of the present day where sun umbrellas, and the owner's sculptures replace canons and soldiers. Odile will assure a warm welcome and comfortable stay.

A most original stay in a medieval fortress overlooking a very pretty village, between the sky and the Provencal garrigue. This place, in addition to its historic character, owes everything to the creativity of its owner, a sculptor whose artistic talents can be found everywhere. The space, the (exceptional) terrace, the gardens allow a group of friends to experience rare moments, so very different to the more stereotypical welcome setups. Bravo

A magical place, at the top of a small village. From the large terrace a spectacular view of the countryside..and those sunsets enjoyed whilst sipping our evening aperitifs. The owners were very kind and discreet. We'd really like to go back.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're well placed for a fantastic day out in any direction. On Saturdays, head down the hill to the village and pick up some organic produce from the market - for more choice there's weekly markets in Pont-Saint-Esprit and Banyols-sur-Cèze too. After spending your days exploring the medieval villages, historic caves and vineyards surrounding you, head for dinner at Lou Caleou (5-minute walk). It doesn't get much better.
Local points of interest from Odile de Frayssinet
- The 14th century restored family château de Vénéjan, a medieval village in the Gard, has sweeping views to the hills of the Ardêche, Cevennes and Uzès valley.
- The Chateau is located in the village of Vénéjan in the Gard, Languedoc Roussillon - the very heart of Provence – with all the magic that the name evokes. Blessed with three major rivers nearby, the area is verdant and mainly given over to vineyards .
- My distinctive choice of décor is a huge asset that gives a personal yet creative touch to each room, and includes oriental carpets, original works of art and a grand piano.
- The immense terrace dominating the valley is unique. Stand and gaze into infinity. At night under the stars it is pure magic.
- There are myriads of wine domains with excellent wine to be tasted, and local markets, including the beautiful Duchy town of Uzès, sell a quantity of cheeses, patés, vegetables and fruit.
- Canoeing through the gorges of the Ardêche and Cèze rivers is a major summer activity as are visits to the spectacular grottos and caves - all within half an hour’s drive. For golf enthusiasts there are courses in Avignon - 45 mins or Uzès in 30 mins.

Introducing
Odile de Frayssinet
Born in Chile, multilingual Odile takes pride in demonstrating the famous hospitality from the country - she is warm, welcoming and hospitable. With a great love of travel and different cultures, she tours the world as often as possible - ask her for some stories! She lives here with her cat, and her brother and sister live in the other side of the building but you'd rarely bump into them.
A wonderful stay in this magical place. Out of time, out of this world with a breath taking views at every glance. An enchantment. The house is a true haven of peace, furnished with taste and in a unique spirit. Everything is beautiful. Very well equipped. I highly recommend this experience.
