The Experience

Neatly designed into an existing ancient building, this cottage has lovely views onto the parkland surrounding you and the feel is light and airy. There are plenty of games to play around the big dining table on rainy days, a wood-burner in a rediscovered brick fireplace and a TV with all the trimmings. Cooks will be very relieved to find good quality pots and pans, Limoges china and proper table cloths. The welcome hamper includes a couple of bottles of the château’s own label artisan beer along with locally made bread and jams.

French windows lead to your courtyard garden with two spacious sitting and eating spots so you can be in sun or shade, the secluded hot tub and a barbecue with prepping table. Take a tour of the château, wander the parkland at will or walk five minutes to Le Kaolin for superb traditional French food and silver service.

Out the gates and you’re into town for a boulangerie, butcher, shops and restaurants.

Reviews

It's not often that you get the chance to stay in a gîte and roam the parkland of a medieval château. It's also rare to find a château right in the centre of a bustling French town. Here you have both. Enjoy the tranquility of the private walled courtyard or morning coffee with a splendid view of the château a few metres away. You'll also have a free tour of the château as part of your stay. The gîte is sympathetically renovated and very well equipped, comfortable and cosy. At night, marvel at the pollution free skies or enjoy the mellow local stone of the château, lit up like a fairytale.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are no less than three good restaurants in town as well as shops and cafés – the tourist office is just outside the château gates and is filled with information. There are numerous markets for local producers in nearby towns on various days and evenings, especially in summer. Limoges with its cobbled streets, cathedral and museum of beaux arts is a 40-minute drive. Brive is just an hour.

Local points of interest from Marta De Bonneval

  • Good food Day trip to Limoges: with 7 restaurants with a mention in the Michelin Guide, 2 with actual Michelin Stars, Limoges and surroundings is a great place for foodies. Try the Central Market Hall in Limoges for the best and the freshest ingredients!
  • Limoges is famous for its porcelain, and walking its curved streets, alleys and passages will not let you forget it. You can buy porcelain straight off the factory or wander around the medieval town where shops are. More factory shops in the countryside.
  • Lac Saint Pardoux: this gorgeous lake is the perfect place to get active. Enjoy beaches, boating, waterskiing, and a water adventure park for the kids. You can also hike along the lake, explore the mountain bike trails or the tree climbing adventure park.
  • Uzerche: They call this beautiful town The Pearl of the Limousin. Explore its medieval streets, its chateaus & its rich history. It's also a great place from which to explore the Massif des Monédières for hiking & mountainbiking.
  • Ségur-le-Château has many remarkable houses built in the 15th/16th C.The castle is built on a rocky spur overlooking the village and the Auvezere river. Farmers'market on Mondays, one of the most beautiful villages around us.
  • Discover the beautiful Limousin region on horseback. With its lush forests and endless trails, the Haute Vienne is perfect for horseback riding. And for the little ones and the newbies – of course there are lessons & workshops to get you started.

Introducing

Marta De Bonneval

The château has been in the family continuously for a thousand years. The current Marquis, Géraud, met his wife Marta in Brazil where he lived as a child. They returned to live in France as they wanted their children to experience French life and lived here with his parents until he inherited the title. You will be met either by the Marquise or super-friendly English manager Simone.
