The Experience
In a large park with vast pastures, woods and every imaginable tree, this fine 16th-century château has all the ingredients for a magical stay. A drive leads to an old gated entrance beyond which a walled vineyard hides a huge pool and a lawn. Nearly all the bedrooms are large, with fine parquet floors and views to slate roofs, the garden or the foothills of the Massif Central. Those in the main house are dedicated to local artists, others, off a stone-flagged courtyard, have four-posters and a delectable treehouse, complete with chandelier, sits in the branches of an ancient oak tree. A generous breakfast is laid on elegantly dressed tables in a delightful room complete with stag’s head; the restaurant is in a separate building and has a large salon. Check out the magnificent wine rack (sample their ‘Marcillac’); indulge in special food in a gorgeous setting. New manager Matheiu Muratet looks after it all with ease and charm, owner Monsieur Rouquet pops in from time to time. Take a trip to the Gorges du Tarn or the Roquefort cheese caves, hike or bike in the wonderful l’Aubrac. Enchanting.
