The Experience

Discover a world of luxury behind the private gates. There are plush leather sofas and 18th-century floors, estate logs for the great old hearth, and a fabulous new kitchen for chefs. Best of all, for rainy days, a spectacular indoor pool and spa (sustainably heated by solar panels and air source heat pumps).

Book a chef to cook you the finest Normandy can offer, or hop in the car to Agon-Coutainville, for lobster and chips by the sea. Or moules frites on the dunes at Blainville-sur-Mer. There’s a great Saturday market in Granville, 30km, and a boat to the Chaussey Islands. And you’re an hour from the most famous sites: the Bayeux Tapestry, the D Day beaches, Mont St Michel.

In summer, huge windows glide open from the pool to the terrace. Lounge on colourful cushions; listen to the birds and rustling leaves; watch Nugget (the cockerel) roost in his tree. There are shady spots under the old lime…and magical illumination for night time swims.

Reviews

I've visited Clos L'Abbé several times and it's no doubt an impressive place to stay and much appreciated by guests. What stands out most to me is the care and consideration Thina and Christophe have put into making every detail of your stay as perfect as possible!

Location

The neighbourhood

Ouville is a quiet hamlet but it does have a boulangerie! For shops, a cathedral and a weekly market, visit Coutances, 10km; in May it also hosts a renowed Jazz festival. Denis-le-Vêtu, 7km, offers a 'ciderie' for tastings and a family-run auberge La Baratte. The nearest uncrowded beach, with dunes, is at Montmartin-sur-Mer (15km)- up the coast from the lively fishing port Granville.

Introducing

Thina & Christophe

Thina and Christophe live in Paris, but love Normandy: Christophe's family have lived in Ouville for generations. They carried out this stunning renovation in 2014 using artisan craftsmen and with sustainability in mind: they’ve planted 500 trees in the grounds, installed an EV charger and water recovery system, use geothermal heating and solar panels and strive to use only eco-friendly products in the house. They welcome guests whenever they can, but in their absence a house manager will.
