The Experience

A unique position for this 1850s house, once part of a convent on the edge of the busy town and with one of the side canals of the famous Isle-sur-la-Sorgue floating past the garden, along with ducks. The ground floor is open plan with traditional Provençal ceilings and beams and screened from the hot sun so you’ll feel comfortably cool. French doors open to a shaded patio and a spacious outdoor dining area with barbecue for long summer suppers.

Bedrooms, one on the ground floor, are lofty and attractive with reclaimed doors for headboards and lots of colourful, original art. Each has an en suite bathroom with thoughtful spaces to put down all your stuff. The bright kitchen overlooks the garden and is plenty big enough for everyone to join in. You’ll find basics in the cupboard and a bottle of rosé.

A five-minute walk will take you to a bakery for your morning croissants, there are bikes to borrow and your canoe awaits. Fun!

Reviews

Unique setting beside a side canal on the outskirts of the antique mecca of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Your own canoe anchored at your gate, private plunge pool overlooking a canal, outside dining, built-in barbecue all add up to a rather special experience for those wanting a comfy and convenient base to walk to restaurants yet be able to drive to beautiful hilltops villages and nearby historic towns.

Location

The neighbourhood

The centre of town is a 10-15 minute walk and there you have an abundance of cafés, restaurants and shops, many of which border canals. There's a huge Sunday market and a smaller one on Thursdays, full of gorgeous local food and many antique shops. A good tea room, Jouvaud is worth a visit, the Michelin starred Le Vivier will be a treat and there's a Vietnamese restaurant called Le Saigon.

Local points of interest from Jean-François Ravaute

  • Vaucluse is the French department with the most listed villages in the country. They’re located around l’Isle sur la Sorgue and all are well worth visiting.
  • The river Sorgue runs peacefully in front of the house, it’s a haven for fly fisherman and ducks.
  • A peaceful haven, our home is very well equipped – you’ll have everything you need to make the most of your stay. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information.
  • Queen bed with hotel-standard bedding, air conditioning in every room, large washer and dryer (16kg), fully functional kitchen with every comfort: food processor, Nespresso machine, 4 ovens, dishwasher, induction hob…
  • Everything in the house has been thought of to make it as comfortable as possible. It is our home and we stay there regularly.
  • L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: discover the Venice of Provence and its 150 antique dealers.

Introducing

Jean-François Ravaute

Jean-François bought the house in 2018. He loves this area as he grew up here and, although the family now live in another part of France, they come back here for holidays as often as they can. You are greeted by the housekeeper Maryse who is very sweet and bubbly but doesn't speak much English so you'll be able to brush up on your French.
