The Experience

Graham greets you like an old friend. Two floors of this charming old convent are yours; on clear days French windows bring in views of Mont Blanc, big bedrooms have crisp linen and fresh flowers, art on every wall, and two join to make a family room.

Furniture and paintings picked up in Africa, Japan and Europe fill the living room – find games, novels and books on local history, or have a tinkle on the piano. A vast farmhouse kitchen has everything you need and there’s room for 12 at the dining table comfortably. A wood burner in the ancient fireplace, plentiful logs and heated floors keep you snug.

There’s good skiing from the village and more slopes within easy reach, ski and boot storage in the games room, and a huge map for planning your adventures. Table football, darts and a chill out area will keep younger guests happy. The wood fired hot tub on the terrace, with that view, is the perfect end to a day spent in the mountain air.

Reviews

The perfect spot for inter-generational family gatherings or for groups of friends to mingle for excellent walking, road and mountain biking, trail running and of course skiing – for all levels. In summer the wildflowers will be wonderful and walks through the valleys sublime. The house is a big and very comfortable place to return to and has glorious views.

Location

The neighbourhood

Set apart from its neighbours, the house is part of a thriving village with two excellent restaurants, a bakery, cheese shop, weekly market and local supermarket. There's an autumn food festival and the Tour de France passes through. It's a 15-minute drive, or catch the bus, to the ski resort of Sommand. The Grand Massif, Morzine and Les Gets are 20 minutes, Geneva airport an hour's drive.

Local points of interest from Graham Fox

  • Maison des Soeurs dates back to 1545 and was a former convent for the nearby church. After falling into ruin, it was fully restored while maintaining many of its original features and unique character...but now with a touch of luxury!
  • The area is a haven for sports enthusiasts and paragliding began from the cliffs above Mieussy. Biking is hugely popular in the region and the Tour de France regularly visits the area and will pass through Mieussy once again in 2023. Bring your bike!
  • Mieussy is an authentic and peaceful Haute Savoie farming village where you can immerse yourself in local French culture. Perhaps join some locals for a game of pétanque on the popular pitch close to the house! Or maybe stroll to the local craft beer bar.
  • Sommand - Praz de Lys is the nearest ski resort just 15 minute drive away, while Mieussy lies at the gateway to the high Alps with all they have to offer those wanting to ski, hike or bike or simply enjoy the beautiful mountain views.
  • The village of Mieussy offers a well stocked store with lots of local produce, a pharmacy, restaurants and bars, while two large supermarkets are 5 minutes by car. A short drive away are the lovely resort towns of Samoens, Les Gets and Morzine.
  • Should you want some excitement and a change from the tranquility of the mountains, Maison des Soeurs is under an hour by car to both Geneva and Annecy with their beautiful lakes, historic old towns, and many bars and restaurants to explore.

Introducing

Graham Fox

Well-travelled Graham and Catherine met in Myanmar – he works in human rights and she humanitarian work in Africa and Asia, now studying for a master's in translation. They came here to be near the nature and the mountains and live on the top floor of the house with their son Teddy and dog Griffin. They love people, are steeped in village life, and welcome guests to this haven.
