Stories, ideas and destinations for people who love travelling slow
2019 means a whole new year of adventures to plan. To help, we’re launching six themes throughout January that you’ll love exploring. We rethink some famous places and delve behind stereotypes, encourage you to find your own kind of mindfulness and explore a wilder way to have foodie breaks.
Everything about creating this guide felt a little different. For previous editions, we’ve travelled to Yorkshire and Northumberland, so far from our Bristol base that everything felt like a discovery. When it came to planning our trip to Devon, which most of us are incredibly familiar with, we wondered if that sense of new was possible. We found out that even the most familiar places can surprise you.
Few holiday moments are more disheartening than arriving at a beach where you can’t see the sand for the sun loungers. In search of places to swap swimming pool cacophony for whispering surf, we asked our owners and the team here at Sawday’s for their secret beach recommendations. Here are five of our favourites across Europe. They might take some getting to, but they are definitely worth it.
