The Experience

Asphodel stands out from the well-heeled houses in this quiet village: a hobbity stone shepherd’s cottage with a bushy cap of thatch and trim garden behind. It’s listed – early 1600s – and little has changed outside, but step in to a warm, bright living area of soft violet sofas, Indian rug on flagstone floors, a Moroccan lamp, original art. No TV downstairs to blight conversation, but a stone fireplace, wood-burner and coffee table with books. In one corner, a modern kitchen with vintage china and crystal glasses; in the other, steep stone stairs spiral to the bedroom. This is hugely romantic: chandelier dangling from open rafters, Laura Ashley bed on a rug-strewn wooden floor; centre stage in the bathroom, a claw foot bath with fluffy towels and smellies. Hard to drag yourself out… but do, for outside are rattan seats hugged by Cotswold stone walls, a scented path over the lawn, a mini wild meadow, apples, plums, herbs to pick. Some asphodels, too – symbols of romance. Stroll to the Tunnel House Inn; close by are Roman Cirencester, Tetbury, the source of the Thames. Or roam as the deer do among endless fields.

Simply wonderful! We spent the whole of Christmas 2019 in this beautiful cottage with our little Westie, Molly 🐶. Gorgeously furnished, cosy, warm and delightfully fragranced. It is evident that the owners have put a huge amount of love and care into furnishing Asphodel Cottage with lots of lovely touches. Very pretty bedroom - we adored the chandelier! And sinking into the comfy velvet sofas in front of the log burner was heavenly. A lovely garden and a great local pub just a walk away across open fields. We cannot recommend Asphodel Cottage highly enough and cannot wait to return!

Melanie, Nantwich

Beautiful cottage with thatched roof, decorated with a mix of traditional and modern elements. Fully equipped, with a luxurious bathroom, functional kitchen and romantic wood-burning stove. We had excellent weather, so we were able to make good use of the grandiose beautiful and well-kept garden, with various corners and seats. This cottage is an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds, but also for enjoying and relaxing in this inspiring environment. Is it worth the money!

We absolutely loved our stay at Asphodel Cottage. From the moment we walked in it felt like Home. A beautiful cottage in a lovely location. It was easy to book and we found the keys exactly as we were informed. I would have no problem recommending this cottage or Sawdays in future.

Clare, Ascot

An absolute delight. We came for an anniversary celebration and were not disappointed - arrived to find the interior even better than the pictures, low lighting and a complimentary bottle of chilled Prosecco, the upstairs bedroom has loads of charm and is hugely romantic. The garden has super views and we enjoyed the short ramble along the footpaths to the Tunnel House Inn. We had a great time touring all the local Cotswold villages. A little bit of heaven and we will definitely return.
