The Experience

Filippo and Marta’s vision to create a relaxed eco-retreat has been realised: float from infinity pool with valley and sea views to the sauna or Turkish bath before zipping out for dinner at a local restaurant. Return to sit on the veranda, chat to fellow guests and sip tea or a cocktail prepared with fresh herbs and aromatic plants from the garden.

You sleep in simple, elegant bedrooms split over two floors with sofa beds for children. Each has a semi-private balcony or terrace facing the views for morning coffee or evening sundowners. Breakfast is a treat: just-picked fruit from the garden, local cheeses and meats, home-buzzed honey. Filippo is an excellent cook and will prepare lunch with notice plus there’s a communal kitchen to rustle up your own meals.

Tear yourself away and visit historic Ragusa (10 mins), the caves at Cava d’Ispica, sandy beaches, vineyards, olive oil producers and quaint fishing villages.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are a handful of restaurants within 10km, from gourmet to rustic, plus a very good pizzeria and the owners have a comprehensive list. Head to Ragusa (10-minute drive) for shops, bars, bakeries and a market. Its old town, Ibla, is a glorious jumble of baroque palazzi set around a handsome square. Scicli and Modica, also gorgeous, are a bit further. Visit Marzamemi for lunch on the coast.

Enjoy the peace and the calm of the countryside around Madre. Taste our aromatic cocktails and homemade aperitivo by the infinity pool, admire the breathtaking view lulled by the sound of cicadas.
Discover the historical and architectural heritage of the Baroque cities, all listed by UNESCO. In less than one hour driving you can get to Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and Noto, famous for their churches and palaces.
Few kilometers from Madre you can swim in clear water and lay down in the golden sand of the best beaches in the south of Sicily. The best ones are Marina di Ragusa, Donnalucata, Punta Secca and Randello.
Return to ancien times, visiting Donnafugata Castle with his 122 rooms. Get lost in the labyrinth, explore the huge garden and visit the Costume Museum, where you can find nineteenth-century clothes.
Experience the food and wine of the area. Have lunch in Scoglitti with very fresh fish and sea food or try one of the local farm that produces homemade ricotta cheese. Have a wine tasting in the wineries where Cerasuolo di Vittoria was born.
Have a romantic walk in Marzamemi, the charming fisherman village with a lot of restaurants. Discover the amazing white beach of San Lorenzo and the natural reserve of Vendicari.

Introducing

Filippo Moriconi

Filippo is Tuscan and Marta grew up in nearby Ragusa but they met while working in Rome. In 2018, wanting to escape the city, they bought a plot of land and renovated what was a run-down building. With sustainability in mind they installed solar and PV panels, manage rainwater collection, adopt a plastic-free approach and aim to be self-sufficient. Filippo loves to cook and Marta is the gardener.
