The Experience

Between Siena and the sea, on a high grassy knoll with stupendous views, this handsome old farm is approached up a white road twisting steeply through chestnut woods. Its position is ideal for capturing solar energy and Lorenzo’s family set out to make it zero-impact. Water is either spring or rain and the garden produces masses of organic vegetables – guests can take their pick. Recycling is high on the agenda so reclaimed beams, stone and other local materials were used in the renovation, and to build the large swimming pool. Some of the apartments are on the ground floor of the house (Val di Merse is the biggest with the best kitchen). On the first floor of the old hay barn is Il Fienile apartment. The style is simple, traditional and unfussy with white walls, modern floor tiles, some bare stone and open fires. Lorenzo’s welcome basket is a treat; ask about oil and wine and helping with the haymaking or chestnut harvest. Great for children who can run around safely, for walkers and geologists fascinated by this Colline Metallifere area; its mines worked since Etruscan times.

Reviews

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Podere I Monti. Luccia made us feel extremely welcome and we had a lovely relaxing stay. I Monti is as peaceful and restful as it gets, the pool is amazing and the accommodation extremely comfortable with everything that you need. We arrived late on the first day and Luccia kindly prepared a welcome meal for us and made sure that we had everything that we needed for breakfast. We were treated to eggs and produce from the garden and Luccia was on hand to recommend local attraction and facilities. I would thoroughly recommend!

My son and I had a wonderful stay at Imonti. The location is breathtaking, very peaceful and lovely being able to relax and be in nature. Very very safe kids can roam around without any worry. Lucia and Emilio are superb hosts very kind and full of interesting facts and sites to visit. We will return...

Lucia and Emilio have created a wonderful place to stay - we went for our honeymoon, and enjoyed every minute. They are warm and welcoming, and we felt at home straight away. A really lovely place to spend a week. The local villages are beautiful, and if you want to drive it is easy to get to Siena, or to the coast - there are so many places to visit and things to do, but I would recommend making time just to relax at I Monti and enjoy the surroundings - and the fantastic pool!

David

I Monti is superb, standing in an attractive clearing, but is surrounded by woods with a network of pretty paths. At 500 metres above sea level you look out at the surrounding wooded hills and you can believe you are in the middle of nowhere, particularly when you come across a wild deer staring at you on the access road to the property. Lucia and Emilio have converted their farm buildings carefully and tastefully for visitors, while preserving a rustic feel; they seem to have thought of everything. Nothing is too much trouble for them: you come as a guest; you leave as a friend.
