The Experience

The house is detached and you can catch the sun, or shade, all day on comfy deckchairs, eat at a long communal table gazing at those views, slip into the pool, or wander to the bottom of the garden for a lovely stone walled snug where you can gather to natter. It’s very quiet up here apart from the wind in the trees and birdsong; on occasion deer might wander about. Interiors are cool with white walls and no clutter, the dining room is enormous and there are books, board games, cards and a big smart TV.

Bedrooms (two downstairs, three up) have exceptional views of the forests and mountain range for peaceful starts with a cup of tea; bathrooms are high end, all with big walk-in showers. Cooking for a gang will be a breeze in the snazzy kitchen with loads of gear and you’re left a welcome hamper with prosecco and biscuits.

Swim in the lakes, hike in the mountains, eat mushrooms, truffles, wild boar, local cheeses and salamis.

Reviews

I love mountain getaways and hanging out with friends and family. La Casa di Pietra offers a wonderfully comfortable, peaceful ambience with all the comforts abundantly provided. Boots and books for me are a necessity. This home is a perfect base for exploration, returning home in the evening, a dip in the pool and cooking up an evening feast with hearty red wine enjoyed under the stars.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is remote, but not isolated. There is a very small village a three-minute drive away and Camporgiano is 10 minutes for Mai'na Gioia, a popular restaurant serving delicious pizzas and other specialities. You'll also find a coffee shop/restaurant/bar with a similar menu. Cantina Bravi is a nearby vineyard where you can eat and drink their wines. This is a walker's, biker's and swimmer's paradise.

Local points of interest from Elizabeth Carr

  • Cantina Bravi - stunning vineyard where you can relax and enjoy dinner with local wine over looking the mountains and vineyards
  • Camporgiano village is a short 5 minute drive from the house and has two delicatessen's, a wine bar, pizzaria in the square and the village hosts many events throughout the summer months
  • Our house is a short 15-20 minute drive to 3 beautiful lakes, we highly recommend Gramolazzo, ideal for wild swimming and paddleboarding. Lago di Vagli is also a beautiful lake to visit.
  • Verrucole castle is a medieval fortress located in San Romano. The fortress can be reached by foot from the village of Verrocole and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Garagnana valley.
  • Lucca is one of the cities most loved in all of Tuscany and can be reached in less than an hour from Casatico, highly recommended day out to explore the ancient city walls by foot or hire a bike.
  • The famous and historical site of the leaning Tower of Pisa can be visited by car from Casatico. Once you have seen the famous site and explored the grounds you can head to the beach for lunch or explore the city centre.

Introducing

Elizabeth Carr

Liz and her husband, who are English, live in Southend where she runs a café and her husband has a paddle board business. They came to visit friends in the area who told them about this lovely old run-down house nearby. Of course they went to see it and of course they fell in love and rescued it. It's now a wonderful retreat in the hills and they hope you enjoy it.
