The Experience
You enter the building, which dates from the 16th century, via the street then through into a private courtyard. The architect restored apartment has a kitchen with dining and living area and 5 sets of doors opening to the south-facing terrace allowing light to flood in (there are shutters if you need them). This is the place to take your evening drink, or eat supper at the outdoor table, listening to the bells of the nearby church and soaking up the view.
There are two bedrooms off the corridor, a double with en suite shower room and a twin with a separate, small, shower. Find a welcome hamper with wine, water, coffee, tea and sugar in the well-equipped kitchen with a large island dividing it from a dining room. Down a few steps from the terrace you’ll find a communal garden with a shared swimming pool.
A short walk will take you to a grocer for stocking up or a choice of restaurants. The village still has a real Tuscan feel.

Casa Via Del Popolo is our favourite holiday home! We have stayed there twice and will return next year. It has the 'holiday holy trinity' of relaxing on the terrace in glorious privacy, hopping outside with restaurants and cafes on the doorstep, plus easy day-tripping distance to Pisa, Luca, Siena and Florence! It is perfect for a young couple, or because everything so easy and close to hand it works a treat for older adults too. The villa has everything you will need and the views are just delightful! I guarantee your camera will be out the second you arrive. When you go, send it my love.

A comfortable apartment, a terrace a fabulous view in a charming Tuscan town which still has an authentic Italian feel to it - a rarity these days, an evenings strolling through the town which has retained its original character. Sitting outside with a glass of prosecco and then going to a simple but delicious, reasonably priced meal in one of the restaurants would be a delight.

Location
The neighbourhood
Palaia is an unspoilt medieval hill village so you'll feel you are living as a proper Italian rather than a tourist. Several restaurants serve delicious, hearty Tuscan recipes at reasonable prices. Step out to the main street for coffee and ice cream, a bar, a bank, a chemist, a beauty salon and some dress shops. There's a good takeaway pizzeria too. Pontedera is 14km away, for the Vespa museum, more shopping, bars and restaurants.
Local points of interest from Ruth Thompson
- Enjoy the fun Friday market in Pontedera
- Enjoy classic food and wine events and village festivals
- Drive or take the bus to Pontedera and from there trains to Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca too
- Visit local vineyards to sample the Colle di Pisano Chianti
- Take early morning local walks in beautiful Tuscan countryside

Introducing
Ruth Thompson
The apartment has been in the family for many years and Ruth Thompson, who looks after guests and is most helpful, was married in the village.
This is a gem of a property. Hidden just off the main street in Palaia, accessed through a quiet courtyard. It is cool, spacious and extremely comfortable. The cleanliness is excellent. The private terrace has stunning views of the Tuscan hills and is close to the well-kept shared pool area. Bakery, grocery, pizzeria, gelateria, cafe are all within a 5 minute walk and the locals are very welcoming. We parked with ease and used the base to explore the locality including San Gimignano and Florence. We will definitely return.
