The Experience

Lush meadows, grazing cows, dry-stone walls – such is the rural beauty of Asturias, where gently rolling farmland gives way to the foothills of the Cuera Mountains. The hotel is a contemporary version of the traditional Asturian house, and is charming within. Plants, rugs on warm terracotta floors, modern art, subtle lighting. Much of the furniture comes from Mariá Eugenia’s home in New Delhi; exquisite wooden pieces collected on trips to India are for sale. The friendly atmosphere goes up a notch in the dining room, the hub of the hotel. Here, regulars and visitors congregate for excellent Asturian dishes, served from 9pm. Bedrooms are big and light with an air of colonial elegance; two have patios leading to the garden – a semi-tropical paradise created by Sirio and María of trees, shrubs, ferns, wild boar, deer and a stunning pergola. Spin off on one of the bikes, take a put on the golf course by the sea, set out on a coastal pony trek, dip into the pool. Your multi-lingual hosts will advise – and if sporting pursuits do not appeal, head for nearby Llanes with its handsome galleried buildings.

El Habana is a unique place. The design of this hotel is second to none making it comfortable, relaxing and stylish. It has that special vintage taste mixing romanticism and peace. The exotic decoration is not excessive and creates a very comfortable ambience. The garden well deserves to stay overnight and enjoy a relaxing walk discovering its wonderful nature. Peaceful and spectacular scenery.

Pedro, Sawday's Inspector

We stayed two nights in a large, very comfortable ground floor room with patio doors out into the garden. The bathroom was spacious with nice toiletries. The breakfasts were delicious, as was dinner. There is a walk with a plan of the large garden, with trees and shrubs named. The history of the hotel's beginnings was interesting too. It's a quiet place to stay, yet an easy drive to the nearby small town and coast. There are plenty of sitting areas in the garden and a very comfortable lounge. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We would certainly return if we are in the area.

Will certainly come back - utterly charming, wonderful garden, delicious food, very comfortable room and very good peaceful sitting areas both inside and out a very special place

We stayed two nights at El Habana. Our suite was wonderful - floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden with beautiful trees and shrubs, framed by the mountains. Tiled floors and antiques set the tone. The welcome could not have been warmer, and our little dog was made to feel particularly at home. Fantastic knowledge of the local area, great recommendations for walks. Dinner was excellent, especially the black paella we had on our final evening. Delicious breakfast. Excellent service throughout our stay, which we wished could have been longer!

perfect spot. wonderfully remote and yet close to a town. Perfect for serving food all the time so no need to have a siesta and then wait ages for dinner if you have young English children not used to staying up! such nice staff, not obtrusive and yet missing nothing
