A delightful mix of old and new in a conservation village with a 4-acre garden that attracts all the local birds. Readers love it too

Read guest comments

Tall octagonal chimney stacks and a Georgian façade give the house a stately air. In fact, it's the friendliest of places to stay and Paris gives you a delicious, locally sourced breakfast including plenty of fresh fruit. The house, originally Tudor, is a delightful mix of old and new. Large light-filled bedrooms have loads of good books and views over the four-acre garden, a favourite haunt for local birds. Bergh Apton is a conservation village seven miles from Norwich and you are in the heart of it; perfect for cycling, boat trips on the Norfolk Broads and the twelve Wherryman’s Way circular walks.

"Paris is a FABULOUS host and makes you feel at home even before you've arrived. Lovely house, lovely breakfast etc etc. If you're in the Norwich area for business or pleasure this should definitely be your number one choice - and I know, I've been trying to find a good B&B in the area for years and this is easily the nicest and the best value."

"This B & B is an absolute gem. Paris and her family are wonderful hosts and go beyond excellence in their warmth and friendliness - this includes Tessie, their Norfolk Terrier! There was everything that you needed in the room with lots of storage, television, radio, books....the bathroom was very, very spacious. The breakfast is really good and there is tea and coffee to make in your room - the views from which are quiet, peaceful countryside. I felt I had been to a retreat for a couple of days! I can't wait to return. Thank you."

"We really appreciated the perfect blend of hospitality and informality that Paris at Washingford House offers. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable, and very much appreciated the lovely old house, which manages to both spacious and full of family mementos. The grounds are easy on the eye and well looked after, and the company of Tessie the Norfolk terrier was an added bonus. We had a lovely time and will have no hesitation in returning. "

"I have just returned from my second visit to Washingford House and would like to say that it is a most attractive house in lovely surroundings. Mrs Back is a most attentive and friendly hostess. The place is certainly 5 star. "

"Our first visit to England from Moree NSW, Australia was definitely enhanced by our 10 days stay with Paris and Nigel at Washingford House. We cannot recommend this B&B more highly. We were greeted with warmth and friendship right form the first moment and immediately felt comfortable and at home. The house is beautiful and the grounds are stunning, the entire atmosphere is relaxing and refreshing. Having little Tessie greet us every time we came "home" was a heart warming ritual. Thank you Paris, Nigel and Tessie for helping us to really enjoy and appreciate beautiful England. x"

"Paris welcomed us with open arms for a last minute booking. Couldnt have been a more friendly welcome. Our second visit and even more in love with this place. Everything is fabulous, the house and gardens, the beds, the breakfast. We have been to many b and bs but this is top of our list. Great bike rides, local farm shop, not far from Norwich either. Superb. "

"A lovely altenative to buget hotels in Norwich for a business traveller. Charming and helpful hosts, a supremely comfortable bed and excellent breakfast in a tranquil rural setting makes this a favourite Sawdays of mine. "

"We stayed here for the sixth time and can only repeat previous comments. This is a great place to stay, in comfortable rooms with large bathrooms. The surroundings, in lovely gardens and countryside, are delightful. Paris is an excellent and welcoming host, providing delicious breakfasts, and she goes well beyond the call of duty in helping her guests."
