The Experience

The ceilings are dizzyingly high – you’ll feel like you’re in an upturned boat. The hand built kitchen is huge and has all a cook may need including a Lacanche range cooker, Miele integrated dishwasher, Quooker taps and large American-style fridge freezer. You are left some local treats to start you off and you eat at a smart dining table. There’s a separate bar with a hand-beaten copper counter, a comfy TV-watching area with an almost cinema-sized screen and a snug with a glass wall which slides out onto the terrace.

Bedrooms (four downstairs, two upstairs) are beautifully designed and very comfortable with squishy duvets and pillows and gleaming bathrooms. The terrace is the same length as the barn and has another table for 12, a barbecue, pizza oven and hot tub. There’s also a lawn for sprawling or playing games.

Stock up in Eye, walk into perfect countryside, head to the coast in under a hour, visit a vineyard, jump onto a steam train.

Reviews

The barn is so huge, those watching TV would have to shout for a cup of coffee from somebody at the kitchen end. It is essentially the threshing barn as it was originally built, but the bedrooms are cleverly and stylishly fitted around and above that huge space. The barn demands a big and preferably noisy party to do it justice.

Location

The neighbourhood

A very quiet and rural spot, close to the Norfolk border but within easy reach of picturesque Hoxne or Eye for shops and restaurants. The Brome Grange pub/hotel is a easy walk and there are footpaths for striding out into nature and quiet lanes to cycle – you can hire bikes here. Wyken Vineyards can offer tours, wine tastings, a farmers' market and a very good restaurant. Aldeburgh is 50 minutes.
